I think folks were nicer 25+ years ago.
Was netting mullet off dock last weekend and said hi to golks, some just look at you like yer head is loose and ignore ya. Back in the day i was friends w all of them there and now most are assholes. All the good ones died. Been there since the 90’s.
Miss my mom’s cookies. Wife wont make me cookies. Mom made the best cookies as did my grandmothers. Wife is making dinner and i’m just pissy after a long busy day.
Y’know when my wife asks me what i wwnt fer my birthday ima gonna answer a year’s worth of cookies.

There are so many things I could write about... missing my grandmothers and mothers scratch pies at T-day and Christmas. The innocence of the younger years, an era that has passed....

Man I sure miss my mothers cooking also. She was a “magician in the kitchen”. We never had much money but she could transform inexpensive food into something out of this world.
From her chocolate chip cookies to a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting she made “special” for me on the sweet side.
Then her Sunday dinners were simply amazing. Roast pork, stuffing, sweet potatoes with glaze, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, Brussels sprouts, apple pie and more was a typical dinner.
Roast turkey then turkey a la king with the leftovers. I sure wish I had that recipe. I set the record once on that. I ate 16 pieces at one sitting. And it was when I was skinny.
Man that lady could cook. 😇

Park I moved into 5 years ago was populated by old timers who always had a happy to see you greeting when passing by. Times have changed and about 30% of homes changed hands in the last year. Newcomers mainly from Miami act like they're scared of looking at you. Sad. And they all think this is the way the Keys were back in the day, when really the Keys are starting to feel like any metropolitan area.

Kinda like New York.
I can remember visiting there and messing with the natives. Making eye contact with them walking down the sidewalk would freak them out. Saying Good morning even more so.
I can remember holding a door open at a store once and a line of about 6 folks stopped and wouldn't come through.
One lady asked me what I was doing. I said holding the door open for you. She said, Why?
As the population density increases, the more folks create a bubble around themselves.

Being polite seems to be a thing of the past in any built up area. At our little lake place everyone still waves as you pass.
One thing I did notice is how drivers have lost their courtesy. When I was taught to drive you would stop for someone backing out of a driveway. Now they honk and speed up. Where has common courtesy gone?

Now it’s full of Yankees and hardly any conchs left. I did experience the hand waving recently on my trip to the Abacos in the Bahamas. Still some courtesy there.

After the storm it accelerated IMO. I miss the old MM 88
