I stopped at all American MacDonald's this morning for a breakfast burrito, and the young woman that handed me my burrito asked me a question, but she didn't speak English. MacDonald's for God's sake......

I miss the woods. Real woods where you can’t hear a highway in the distance. Where you can hunt all season and not encounter another hunter.

*flame suit on* I miss the days in my sapling period of extensive slow speed/no wake days and hopping in the boat and a 5-10 minute ride later buying beer at the canoe rental.
Running trot lines and being back quick.
That was pretty manatee days. I also miss the fish and gators in the river, it's rare to see a gator much over 5 foot anymore.
I also miss being able to ride in the woods and hunt 5-10 minutes away, or hopping on a dirt bike and going lots of places.
*flame suit off*

Front porch swings and listening to the family men (dad’s brothers and brothers in law) talking hunting and fishing. Playing outside till the street light came on. Being on the riverbank some part of every week. Entire population of Florida was about 1.2 million. No cell phones.

I'm not as old as yall so I really did miss a lot of the things yall experienced. I feel cheated in this aspect. But I can remember being 16 in 1994. A buddy I grew up with from kindergarten through the 7th grade spending literslly wvery day together up till then had moved back to his families ancestral lands of Geneva Co AL. On some weekends I'd make the drive west to the metropolis that was Geneva. No idea what the population was then but it's an 26k now. I had a beat up S10 that I barely fit in it wasn't fancy or fast even but it got me and him to the Choctawhatchee River and back a many a time. We'd put an old Jon boat of dubious origin, quality, and seaworthyness in above town and drift past the junction of the Pea and Choctawhatchee rivers and get out so.ewhere down the river I couldn't tell you where today to save my life. It was fun. Sometimes we even caught fish. Most times just a sunburn. And a buzz. Never dount a 16 year olds ability to drink piss warm Busch light if it's all they can get their hands on. The beat up S10 got us to fishing holes, springs, a field party or two, and all points in between the Chattahoochee and Choctawhatchee rivers. All over Houston and Geneva Co AL and Jackson, Washington, Holmes, and Bay Co FL. Hell sometimes we'd sneak off to Panama City and be back before supper. Our parents had no idea where we were or what we were into. No cell phones. Some of them sandy dirt roads didn't see traffic for days. And we'd get stuck sometimes and just sit and wait for somebody to come along and pull us out. Lickily they always did. My kids will never know that level of freedom. We grew up. Started families, worked, kinda lost touch. Saw each other a couple of times here and there and talked about getting together. They found him dead in his apartment at 30. I miss my buddy Chris. I miss being a 16 year old kid. Free and wild. Very little responsibility and even less of a clue how the world operated. I hated that S10. It wasn't cool it didn't even. Have a working radio most days. Now I'm tha tahnkful to have had it. Especially as hard as I was on it and the abuse it endured. Cheers to our youth gentlemen! 🤘

Good stuff Polar, we are of similar age. I’d tell my parents I was sleeping over at so and so’s house and they wouldn’t see me for days. My kids will never know that kind of freedom.

Just the world before the internet, cellphones and social media. People seemed to be a lot more happier and respectful.

Cell phones are a blessing and a curse.
I often wonder how we got anything done without them. I also long for the days when I could just disappear for a little while without having a phone ring.

The woods and less people. I currently live about a mile of where I grew up. We moved to the Mandarin area of Jacksonville in 1967. Other than a few riverfront homes and a scattered subdivision or two, there was nothing but woods for miles and miles. We had the river behind us and a lake right around the corner where you could catch all the bream and shiners you wanted. Bluegills, Sunfish, Shell Crackers, Warmouths and Golden Shiners were plentiful. Catch a dozen shiners on bread balls put them in a bucket and stroll back to over to the river and bass fish. We had bicycle and mini bike trails for miles, tree forts, ground forts and hidden underground forts. I still love being in the woods to this day and being on the water of course. Mandarin isn't what it used to be and all the damn people suck!!!!..Oh and I miss fast cars and fast......well you know.
