Just met with my 88y/o mom and attorney yesterday. Had to put our names on all the trust accounts so that we can keep an eye on everything. The scams are off the charts and very very good. Having a good bank with a good relationship is very important too.

Her phone is hacked every other month and I have never had a phone hacked my entire life. A lot of scummy people live in our world.

We just put a small amount in her checking as needed. Signing over the whole trust can be tricky even if they love and trust you. Ornery old momma, I love her.

Released on $17,000 bond? No - should have been enough to pay the notifying victim back and in gold as well.

There is no reason to sign over the whole trust just keep funding what she needs in the checking account so she doesn't have issues and you cannot lose a ton of money with scams. I am assuming you have a revokable trust and that is why you are saying it is tricky because she is ornery. Irrevocable trusts can be super tricky in the wrong hands. A lot of folks switch to irrevocable trusts if medical bills are going to be insane and the parties want to protect the trusts assets. It takes 5 years after switching to an irrevocable trust before you can get access to Medicaid. I like the idea of taking care of your own which it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job at that !

I’d be on mom’s checking and other accounts with an alert on all transactions over a prescribed amount.

Yes revocable, we just needed full access to everything named in the trust. It was just time to do that. Luckily my siblings are not involved at all. Boy would that be a mess. We got things in order pretty good, it has been my wifes full time job for over 2 years. Fact is, we won’t stand to see much… We are just trying to do right by momma. Amazing how hard that is to believe these days. People suck

The easy answer is never answer the phone.
If it's not on your list, they can leave a message.
