Thanks for the reminder. I have asked (trained) my widowed Mom to not answer the phone if she does not know who it is, and if someone asks her for money to call me, we live 15 minutes away. But then she calls all the time anyway with some electronic gadget that she has trouble with.

Nobody thinks they're the kind of person to fall for a scam. But these are very well honed psychological processes that are used to guide a victim to give up money.
It's also a numbers game. You never know ones state of mind at any given time.
