Fennel is one of the ingredients that I never have cooked with. It was not a predominant ingredient and conch or southern cooking and definitely not in Filipino cooking. I think I need to learn how to incorporate it into some more exotic dishes. I've never used fennel either. It just wasn't around as I grew up. I'm not a big licorice fan either but I may do like conchy.

Attachment DeletedThe fennel discussion......maternal grandfather.....from Sicily.....always had it growing in the yard, along with other herbs. In fact, that scene in "Goodfellas" where they're in prison and are discussing "the sauce"......always think of Papa...... Anyway.....no.....this is not a recycled picture.....crab again. If you're a "meat" guy think Wagyu fillet.....you'd eat that once a week and NEVER complain. More work with the crabs as we catch them, then pick 'em and then do the cooking.....but the cost is nil. And.......heads and backbones from what we catch when fishing is the bait.

Steak, baked potato, and grilled asparagus. Reverse seared the wife's filet and then threw my ribeye, and her filet, on the grill once it was brought up to around 450°.

Deer meat... lasagna. It's what's for dinner. Fennel inspired, of course, through my homemade venison Italian sausage... Attachments:

Maybe if he knocked down too much of the “grass“ he never got around to the cabbage rolls and called out for pizza.

I blackened a boneless chicken breast for myself, and the wife had left over picadillo, that I made for us last night.

Inspired me wynnv, went out and bought all the stuff for cabbage rolls. After I knock this grass down it’s on. How did the cabbage rolls turn out? For the first time ever, pretty good. Used a polish recipe from the net. Hind sight needed less rice , little more flavor and it reminded me of a spring roll so I kept thinking a touch of sweet would have been nice. Still can’t post pics from I Phone.

Both very good.

Nopal is good, a bit pricier than La Tienda though, and they don't have lengua. El Indio across the street does.
