They want to make sure commercial guys get their share, while recreational anglers get screwed again ignorance at it's best. You practice that or is it just natural?

They're talking about taking on action on kingfish meanwhile they're gill netting them commercially... its ridiculous strict quota, far more regulated than the recreational hordes.

The regulations will be creeping into the recreational sector too. S Atlantic ARS has 3 diff kinds of pilot tests coming out - selecting folks via lottery and giving them 3 month windows to fish. Gotta tell the FWC/NOAA/Whoever when they sail, and when they are coming in for mandatory ramp checks and inventory, etc. After a bit and who knows how long, it will turn into a log your catch on your phone or computer every day.

Good data is better than what the rec sector has now. may work to rec benefit.

Fished 9 Miles off Jax Sunday nothing but red snapper and one short grouper. It's a shame that they let the red snapper completely decimate the reefs cant hardly catch anything except red snapper every single drop.

Reef surveys from 100 year ago have shown that ARS were the dominant species.

Reef surveys from 100 year ago have shown that ARS were the dominant species. And they most definitely are once again, the Gov needs to push state waters out to 9 or 12 miles on Atlantic side and help fight against the feds.

I think in Alabama and Louisiana you have to tele-check your ARS already. I don't have a problem with it. Like A#1 said, good data is better than no data.

why not just make it a tag system, get so many per year have to report catch but instead of people killing each other over one weekend they can do it whenever they want throughout the year.

The whole thing is that they want to reduce the C&R fishing that is going on. Folks can't hardly catch anything else so they C&R ARS just to catch something that pulls. Buggers are tough.
I been checking the Fed site frequently and they added some language about the July recreational season. So, we may have one, in addition to the Jan 1 - Dec 31 closure.
I'd like to be able to choose when I get my 2 or 3 Atlantic ARS per year. Think the problem is enforcement and tags costing money to produce.

I heard about some guys that fished out of Boca Grande, in a 39 Yelliowfin with trip 300's. Would run to 160'. Put a limit of 20 lb plus red snapper in the boat inside of 20 minutes. Home by noon. Burnt 250 gallons of course. Rumor was, it was a moral victory. Maybe just a wives tale. My own personal opinion is the state is incapable of managing fisheries. When I was a kid, I didn't know what a red snapper was. When I left 10 years ago, I couldn't get a bait past them to catch a grouper. I'd say the fishery has recovered, immensly, but that's just me.

Gasparilla Island. My dime. All the marine patrol, both of them work 1/2 days and hang out at the boat ramp hastling the local idiots. Next ten weekends work for me, but weekdays are better. No one fishes weekdays offshore there. I will even clean and pack them in ice for you. All the red snapper filets you can handle. Promise. My partner has a house on the island, so if you come the day before, you can get some shut eye and home cooked dinner before daylight.

Last snapper season off Jax I was back at the boat ramp with my limit by 9am in a 18ft flats boat........... had 3 fish all 15+lbs

I'm open weekends of June 22, July 20, July 27. Can do monday, thursday and friday during the week.
