Woke up sweating and shivering. This covid is kicking my ass. Can't eat and feel like crap. Hoping it's over soon. The wife seems to be recovering faster then i am so at least there is an upside This shit is pisssing me off big time  Try this.... 1 lemon cut in half, squeezed into a glass ... 1 table spoon of honey, mix into lemon juice 1 table spoon of cayenne pepper.....added to lemon juice Mix well....drink it all Add shot of bourbon or your favorite spirits if you choose too. |

Today......well.....basically got ready for tomorrow.
Spent a good 2 hours preparing & filing a burn application with the Florida Forest Service for a small block that Louann and I are going to burn.....21 acres.
Once that was wrapped up ran the tractor over to the west side and disked up about 2 miles of fire break for later use. And managed to knock off part of the exhaust system of the tractor......damn!
After grinding things off square on the tractor spent some time wondering how to fix it as INEXPENSIVELY as possible. That being a frustrating and fruitless effort I followed orders from above and pressure washed down the porches and cleaned up one of the barns. Seems we need to have things looking "nice" for the wave of tours that start next Saturday with the UF Veterinary Club.
Finished up by shifting a couple of game cams and corning up.
Oh......and feeding the %$#@*&#@! mosquitoes which had EXPLODED in the last couple of days. Darn things are going to be off the wall shortly unless we get some serious cold.

Today is my 77th birthday.
Wife cooked link sausage and pancakes for breakfast.
Took it easy most of the day, for dinner we went to an Italian place we like and had a nice veal parmigiana.
All in all, a good day.

Hey I’m curious Bswiv, what will the UF vet club be interested in on your farm? Wife says I’m nosey but I think I’m just inquisitive😉 We do a lot of FREE outreach here, most of it aimed at forestry, conservation easements & prescribed fire. And we get a wide array of groups. Besides the UF Vet. club next week, over the ensuing 6-7 weeks we'll have two Audubon groups, folks from St. Johns Riverkeeper, a women's hiking club, a 4-H group, a class of middle schoolers from St. Johns County, a homeschool "class".....and more......including the St. Johns County Master Naturalist Class unit on uplands will be taught in our barn, something they'd done 5-6 times. As to the UF Vet group, they contacted one of the FWC's biologist looking for a place that would give them some on the ground insight about land management and native wildlife. We got tossed at them. It'll be interesting. And......let's say for the Audubon groups.....to be able to one-on-one show them how it works in the real world, to show them how the burning and the land being in forestry benefits birds. And even to make clear how hunting is valuable as the income from that allows landowners to manage less intensively.....which again benefits the birds they care about. You'd be surprise how often we see the light go off in folks. It's a win for everyone. |

Today was replace the belts on the zero turn mower. The drive belt broke yesterday, so go to Brooksville to by belts and once home, I go to work on the replacements.
Sombitch drive belt pulleys and belt tensioner pulley must have been designed by a left handed engineer trying to think like a right handed wanker jockey. After 30 mins of holding the belt on 3 pulleys while trying to loop the belt around the tensioner pulley, I called a beer break. 10 mins after finishing the beer, I figured out how to take tension off the pulley with a ratchet strap and Shazam! It slid together like peanut and butter.

Had a HMG few minutes when a wind shift turned the backing/flanking fire we had going in 21 acres of 18 year old pine into headfire. Scorched the heck out of about 4-5 acres of trees and it was a darn close run thing keeping it out of the next unit.
Spent the last few minutes of daylight loading up and filling up drip torches and running one of the 4-wheelers up into the truck so it's all ready to run over the a friends place near Worthington Springs for a 40 acre burn tomorrow. On the way there have to deal with a bear call near Starke.......it'll be another long day.....

Made the wife (and the dogs) and I a cheese omelet, picked up dog poop, raked neighbor's leaves from my front yard, and cut the grass although it didn't really need it. Busy past week at work, so I'm sure a nap is in the cards for this afternoon.

Loaded the truck with gear and headed for the ramp to meet my buddy. Moved gear to his boat, launched it, and idled out through the channel. He hit the throttle, and the dang motor dies. It starts back up, but when he hits the throttle, the same thing happens. We turn around, go back to the dock, unload the gear. I head home, he headed to his mechanic's house. A couple hours later and it's fixed (fuel pump) so we will try again next week.

Cleaned the grill, cleaned our fish/ game processing deck. Went to Publix and then visited a little mom and pop Philippine grocery. (Got lumpia wrappers, coconut vinegar and banana sauce).
