Thanks for posting wayvis. Surprised at some of the low deer numbers on a few no check station areas I'm familiar with or always heard about from others. A lot to see and digest on what to do about the non compliance. When county by county numbers for private lands are revealed many doubt if 50% may have complied with the simple reporting system. If non compliance high for 🦌 turkey non reporting easily much worse. With no physical tags and exempts running wild it's a system needing major changes for true accountability. Mandatory reporting a start but far from a solution to these changing times with massive human growth.

I agree on the license and I believe that the majority of exempt hunters have a customer number either through tagging game or the had it before becoming exempt. I realize that we have an influx of retired Yankees moving to Florida that may or may not hunt,but I don't think the majority of them are going to hunt here. They are more than likely to fish than hunt. We all know that hunting in Florida is pretty darn tough and not for the meek. We also know that hunting is better up north because they always remind of this.

I’ve seen hunt club members given a few days to get their camp and equipment off the property for violations of club rules which requires mandatory game reporting. Another fact is some leases have harvest limits more restrictive than the state harvest limits. I personally don’t think private lands is much of an issue when it comes to game reporting.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the private land reporting. I think the non compliance will be enormous. We'll see how it shakes out after a few seasons of mandatory reporting. Also threads such as this had to have some impact at least at spreading the word we do have mandatory reporting. Glad we had it.

I've got a question. Are the federal funds we are receiving based on yearly license sales or are they based on the total number of license that are forever issued? The forever issued license would include lifetime license holders and exempt hunters that have a customer # I would assume.

Happy Birthday Joekat. Tags are not the solution to better harvest reporting. Tags can also be thrown away once you get home. The only thing that tags is better at than what we have is keeping a person from over harvesting. I don't think that's a problem in Florida since very few harvested 3 or more deer. No matter what system you use you are always going to have a few that abuse it. The only way to get better reporting is peer pressure and incentives. Low numbers on some areas my indicate few hunters hunting it, very few total hunt days for an area, and low quotas issued. I guess another way of saying this is how many man days the WMA hunted.

Kinda surprising but the crazy restrictions the Feds place on you in there hamper success.

Yes, these are 2022--2023 total WMA numbers. When you look at these numbers remember that they are not 100% accurate. The accuracy depends on how many hunters actually reported their harvest. Just like most deer harvest numbers you need years of data to show trends. As someone said this is just a start. Trying to figure out how good the hunting is on any given WMA from these numbers are just a starting point. Some other info you need is estimated population, deer harvested per square mile, and how many man days it takes to harvest a deer.

Only what I hear rumored but between the pythons and the panthers that don't report their harvest the deer 🦌 population took a big hit in Big Cypress.

Yeah something is off here. Lake Monroe is 3000 acres of non quota (roughly 2 miles by 1 mile in area) and is showing 51 deer killed. If that's true I'm never putting in for another quota Lol! Deer are so thick they are killing two with one shot!

Definitely not correct numbers. I'd be surprised if there were 5 deer killed in there to be honest.

I just don't see how it's possible. I've heard the wma is pretty poor. And areas 5x that size with quotas aren't getting that many harvests. If it's true it's the best kept secret in public land lol.

I find this very hard to believe also. With this large of a data set I'm sure it could be an error. No way of knowing without contacting FWC. Comparing it to a quota hunt area is not comparing apples to apples. One thing you need to know when comparing areas is how many man days each area is hunted. Man days are defined as a hunter going hunting on an area for any amount of time. Just remember most of these numbers are most likely low to what was actually harvested on most areas.

Of course the surrounding ag helped but none the less... now it's a fucking sta with ultra limited access.

2 miles by 1 mile is just two square miles or 1,280 acres. 3,000 acres would be almost 5 square miles. Anyway you slice it though, 51 deer killed on 3,000 acres is a crap ton!

A typo, maybe?

I dont think you know the rules for scouting and hunting Deer at Merritt Island.....Loxahatchee Refuge might come close for their airboat permits requiring a physical inspection of the airboat before a permit is issued.
