Yep. Trophy hunting has ruined the hunting experience. when it cools off , and small game opens i can put you and your son on a few quail, wma close to you, not a ton but if you walk the route i give you 5 to 7 miles you will jump 2 to 5 coveys 6 to 15 birds in each. that and all the snipe you care to shoot at. no dog needed.

Appreciate it Meat. We got into some last season near where you're probably talking. I don't slog through that slop much anymore. I drive to a slough on my polaris and let my son and his buddy walk it and pick them up on the other end. My buddy usually brings his as well and we turn it into a full day of pond jumping to the next honey hole and eating fried chicken. Even bring the wives and younger kids sometimes and let them use the canal rifles to catch bass and bream.
Wait until small game season opens and I will take you snipe hunting off the airboat at one of your familiar deer haunts, and show you how a gentleman hunts.

Thats the way of everything in the scumshine state anymore, all comes down to the almighty dollar. Until about 5 years ago I had plenty of private property to hunt in Polk and Hardee Co. Property has since been sold and developed or just sold. Finding a lease that under 8k is impossible, and land owners won't let you hunt for fear of getting sued if an accident happened. You can apply for special opportunity hunts, ain't never going to get drawn. Open management areas are a joke with all these assholes that have been watching youtube videos, so they think they are hunters. It's dangerous and aggravating to attempt to hunt in any of these areas. Not that I'm against people getting outdoors, but maybe they should do some small game hunting, and work up to the big leagues. Learn how to be an outdoorsman first, then start trying to hunt.
