I decided to prevent dry rot today, and made a solo run offshore while the weather was favorable. I launched my boat at The Barge Canal about an hour before daylight, and I ran straight to 70 feet and got my Red Snapper limit quickly on a jig. Not really big, but big enough.
Then I started trolling for "whatever". Orange skirted Ballyhoo on the left rigger, 4" bullet jig with a small curly-tail on the right rigger, and a big diving plug long down the middle.
Had a good hit on the plug that pulled off after running off a good bit of line, Probably a big King. After that it was all on the small lure on the right rigger. Got 8 Little Tunny about 10 pounds each. Kept one for future strip baits and released the rest.
Had a good ride back in on glassy water.
The water temperature was 86 out deep, and 90 back in 30 feet.

And I'll be the first to admit that bonito aren't bad eating at all. Lotta dark meat to cut out along the spine, but the top and bottom loins are just fine seared up like any other tuna. I much prefer it to kingfish.

You done good Pete. BTW when I caught skipjack in Baja, many moons ago, people never kept them but I kept one for sashimi and it was really good with soy sauce and wasabi.
