With the whole world out chasing catfood ( kingfish! ) we're going to take advantage of the reduced boat traffic inside and have a go at the mangroves and flounder and whatever else EDIBLE will hit in St. Augustine Inlet.
Low tide is at 6AM, basically sunrise, so we'll toss the net a while and then fish the incoming tide.
And as we're old we'll take the slack tide as a cue to head back and clean fish......assuming we catch fish.
We'll see..............

Good luck! One man's cat food is another man's delicacy! My dad used to dump tons of kingfish off the docks at the Hillsboro inlet in pilot Pompano because they weren't worth the effort to sell them. People he took fishing generally only wanted a few pics with their catches and that was it. He didn't see kingfish as fit to eat so he didn't even bring it home. He (everyone) did the same thing in Cat Key with the giants after weigh in during the blue fin tournaments. The locals did not want them and it was decades before the Japs were paying any money for them. Funny thing, 40 years later I sent 17 fish to Japan from California for $60k+ and there were only 2 bluefins in the lot. The rest were big eyes and yf. Add a $100k of swordfish and some other lower grade tunas to the local domestic market and it was a respectable pay day for a 24 year old on 2 week fishing trip. My old man couldn't believe it. Back to the original thread, I'm with Ben. Give me some FOOD fish. You guys can knock yourselves out with the cat foods!

Kingfish makes great smoked fish spread too.
Little honey, brown sugar, and a lot of smoke. Shoot, I may have to drive down to Ted Peters this weekend

IMHO, smoked dip is about the only thing a kingfish is good for. Just not a big fan of it.
Gimme a halibut, tile, flounder, grouper, or snapper any day. I'm more of a "bottom feeder" I guess.
