I can't reply to the ads in the truck aspect as I have not seen that on my 2019.. But I have had the att wifi for 20 bux a month. I had not activated it for almost 2 yrs after I got the truck. But on the cross country trip I took the bride had to do continuing education courses so i activated it, it was nice for her to be able to do them online on a laptop while we traveled, instead of just looking out the windows. It provides wi fi / hotspot but I haven't seen it use the wifi for anything. Note I have not tried sync updates that it can download, as I'm old skool..if I wanted to do those I would prefer to put a geek whistle (thumb drive) in the port. Less chance for a interrupted install.
As always, for educational purposes only, your milage may vary.

If Ford were to offer you a free AT&T hotspot (or $25/mo) to receive ads in your car, would you take it? No. I've got the option for that in my Toyota. The maps are nice when we need em but do the navigating with cell phones. The traffic maps in the truck suck as does the one in the phone - just want to see the yellow and red spots pretty much.

dont only think of ads. Think of services that you use in the car all the time, that they can hive off and charge you for it. Im paying around 30 bucks a month for Wi-Fi, mapping, traffic conditions, routing, tire changing, and some other stuff. That is the poster child of what they want to do. Self driving will also be on the menu. I am almost to the point of paying for wifi in my wifes car as all the gremlins want to get on their devices.

I did it in my last 3 vehicles for working purposes. When I retired, I thought of things to get rid of. Things I didn't need anymore and vehicle wifi was one them. Then I realized how convenient it was to have wifi when you've got 3 or 4 grandkids in the car, on the road. I kept it and don't regret it.

EVs are like that, you pay a subscription to activate options.

EVs are like that, you pay a subscription to activate options. Yah Genesis I am sure is going to come at us with that. I got a call yesterday from the agency, when you are in for your update (4th one in a year) tomorrow, would you like to look at upgrades? I was confused, I said I have owned the car 1 year, it has 8k miles what upgrades could there be? She said,"oh you know, a new model". No thanks.....
