More propaganda by the leftists that price gouging is a thing. It's good that the free market of ideas is still available to counter leftist propaganda.

Supply and demand plus external factors. It's pretty simple when one gets off their soapbox. I'll shop at Lidl, Publix, Food Depot and Costco and buy certain items from each. "Food shoppers are savvy. The Food Industry Association found that 63 percent of Americans now shop at a mix of grocery stores to keep their bills down, and there are more low-cost grocery options popping up throughout the country to accommodate this. German discount grocery chain Aldi, which already operates over 2,300 locations in the U.S., plans to add 800 more stores by 2028." “In 2024 and 2025, food prices are becoming more affordable, [but] not because shelf prices are going down,” Ricky Volpe, the agribusiness economist, said. It’s because American consumers and businesses are adapting to the economic hand they’ve been dealt. Just like motorists will sometimes search for the gas station with the lowest gas prices, so do consumers sometimes seek out these lower-priced alternatives to help keep their food bill in check" www.thefp.com/p/why-are-grocery-bills-so-high

Shopped Publix today and notice quite a few items heavily discounted from last week's price level. Maybe they're starting to get the message that people are shopping elsewhere? Like Walmart, Target, WD, Aldis, or even the neighborhood butcher?

Costco for bulk items, Lidl for produce, milk and bread, Food Depot for meat and Publix for brands I can't get at Lidl. Getting my steps in.

I seriously doubt you are either. I go to different stores to buy different items based on price. I do not need to financially. I do it out of principle. Most everything at Publix is more expensive than the competition, even when it is BOGO.

Your shop around savings is consumed in gas and time. Granted if you're retired, time is less of a commodity.

Just not worth it to me. WD and Walmart are just nasty stores I won't shop at. Plus I have found out-of-date product at WD the few times I shopped there. Aldi's is just strange, in my opinion. Plus my brother worked for Publix for 20 years and they treated him pretty well in his retirement. If he is buying stuff, it is with Publix money.
We don't have a Costco and Sam's club is not that great. I would try Costco if they come to Gainesville.
We do have Kroger delivery which is something new. They ship out of Jacksonville. Seen a few of their trucks around.
I do buy produce and some meat fromWards, a local market.

My wife orders most of our non perishable items, canned and dry foods etc either from Sams club or Walmart that's either shipped to our house or we pick up at the Walmart near us. For fresh vegetables and foods we shop at Publix. It's a treat for us and I don't mind spending more for the service and cleanliness. And an added bonus, there's a Publix liquors right next door to the Publix grocery store and a 1/2 gallon of Jameson is substantially cheaper than any place else.

I refuse to pay $20/lb. for a steak at Publix when I can drive a mile up the road and get the same cut for half the price.

There is a Wildfork in the Town and Country area I believe, right across from Costco on Linebaugh. I have yet to go there. Is it worth the time? What do you usually purchase there OhMy?

I do not think it is worth a long drive. I buy pretty much all of my meat there. Everything is frozen and vacuum sealed. I buy steaks, roasts, seafood, burgers, dogs and sausages there. A few weeks back I got a center cut beef tenderloin there for 8.99 / lb. on sale. I would have paid around 30/lb. at Publix.

I'll stop in if I'm hitting a client site nearby but doubt I'd make a special trip as it's about 30 minutes away. Any idea where they source there meat and seafood from?
Edit: Marketing department wording, "Our U.S. beef comes from the best slow feeders in regions such as Nebraska and Colorado, where the cooler climate and lush grasslands produce some of the top cattle in the world. We also search the high seas and farms near and far for the best products on the planet. That means Iberico Pork from Spain, A5 Wagyu Beef from Japan, seafood from the Mediterranean, and other authentic imported products that pack in premium flavor."

I will Google this also of course. Domestic and Abroad. The domestic meat is USDA graded (choice or prime). The meat from abroad that I saw was from Brazil or Argentina. They sell all types of seafood and also meats like buffalo, goat, lamb. Fresh market has some good meats as well, but I only buy from them when the meat is on sale. I think this weekend they have 2 for 5 gourmet burgers and 12/lb USDA prime flank steak. I may make some fajitas this weekend with the flank steak.

Might want to take a look at the USDA Choice Angus Outside Skirt Steaks at WD in place of the flank steak. $12.99 lb. at WD. As to the $8.99 Tenderloin mentioned earlier, I can assure you that it was Mexican Tenderloins. Not US.

My wife will not eat anything that is not domestic and graded above choice and she is the one that asked for the tenderloin and shopped with me. I know it was a steal at that price, that is why I bought two of them. Thanks for the heads up on the outside skirt steaks, those are running $24/lb at Publix. That steak used to be $3/lb when I was in college in Tampa, ever since the "churrasco" steak became popular the price went through the roof.

I am pretty sure beef imported from Mexico can have USDA certification. Just because it says USDA does not ensure it is domestic. If that is what you are saying.
