"Donald Trump on Saturday commented about an upcoming vote on a new amendment in Florida, and conservatives are not happy about it." "Trump over the weekend took to Truth Social to proclaim himself the "most respected LAW & ORDER President in U.S. History," before going off in an odd direction and complaining about the smell of marijuana." "He also appeared to approve of the passage of an amendment in Florida that would legalize possession of a personal amount of marijuana." "That didn't sit well with many traditional conservatives, including many of those in the state." "Debbie Mathews, a Florida conservative, said in response to Trump, "Here we go again." "Trump doesn’t understand a Florida Amendment," she said Saturday. "Study shows crime goes up when marijuana is legal. Can his advisors prep him better, please? Vote NO on 3." "David Biddle, chair of the Gilchrist GOP in the state, said on Saturday, "Don't listen to Trump. Vote NO on Amendment 3. We don't need recreational marijuana in Florida. It's been a disaster everywhere they have it, it brings zero benefit to society, it increases crime, increases homelessness, and increases further drug use. It's bad for Florida." "Conservative Army Iraq War Veteran Peter Henlein also chimed in:" "Great. Now we have Trump coming out for amendment 3 in Florida, saying it will pass. We know MAGA influencers are being paid large sums to promote this as well. It’s all just a big scam for money. And even though I am a big DeSantis supporter, if he can’t stand up to Trump over issues in his own state….well that’s pretty bad. Stop being afraid of Trump and MAGA." "Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis, who identifies as a constitutional conservative from Florida, called Trump's comments a "PR play." "Trump is talking about Amendment 3 to make conservatives start talking about why we obviously oppose this stupidity and he hopes we just forget about the Amendment 4 problem," she said. When someone suggested Trump may have been paid to endorse the cannabis amendment, Ellis said, "Definitely could be that too." www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/don-t-listen-to-trump-florida-conservatives-turn-on-ex-president-over-new-comments/ar-AA1pMpQF?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=fd885fd66e7647128fc22b46bbf6b444&ei=49

Florida Republicans are being funded in their fight against Amendment #3 by the hemp industry. Hemp wants to be the legal high. Florida man isn't having it.

If they're smart, they'll pass it. Hasn't been no increase in crime around here. Anybody that wants it already can get it. It's safer through a licensed facility. It generates a lot of tax and saves money by not spending resources to combat it.

Either way ... the money will talk ... loudly.
The "industry" is in a bind, catching heat from both sides.
It's dificult to compete with legality, and shitloads of rules, plus taxes.
They want the "illegal premium" price, for stuff that's cheap to produce.
The Black market, and homegrown, will never go away without a massive police crackdown.
That won't happen ... so it's a wash ... and yes, organized crime Is involved.
In California, Chinese nationals turn homes into grow operations to ship out of state.
In some towns it's out of control ... they get busted, then sell the house for more than they paid!
Seven plants, or 700 plants ... it's a Misdemeanor!

Gatherings with hundreds of thousands of people high on weed or ? and no violence. Insert alcohol, which is legal, and you can expect some level of violence. Let me think about this for awhile. Guess I'd go with the herb.

Vote Yes on 3 and 4. My body my choice. While you can surely guess where my vote will fall on these two the fact of the matter is that one is about actual freedom whereas the other is a rank political stunt being used as a way to score votes from those ignorant of the fact that nothing will actually change. My guess is that they'll both pass...... But....do keep in mind..."viability" is a moving target..........

I don't care who backs 3 & 4 as long as they get approved. Never thought I'd see legal weed in my lifetime. Right to choose shouldn't even be a conversation. Government needs to keep out of our personal affairs.

Government needs to keep out of our personal affairs. big pharma with our governments blessing pushes drugs like ozempic and many others on millions of americans, drugs that are to be taken for your lifetime . meanwhile you gotta sign waivers and give your left nut to get 30 percocet after a surgery. if weed helps with pain bring it on im ready.

They knew the risks and ended up in jail. It will increase the number of high folks driving. Bad enough they are watching videos on they phones and texting on the highway, now they will be high and distracted by the phones. What could go wrong? Only a big deal if it's your kid that dies.

Rich, the way I see it is that people who want to smoke pot are going to do it anyway. Even though it may cost more than buying on the street it would be safer from deadly additives. I respect your opinion though.

Driving around looking for smoke is probably more dangerous in the long run. Your chances of dying by one of Biden's illegals is probably a lot higher.

Probably 80% of the people in our village get high. With alcohol it's closer to 100%. Majority are Republicans. I can guess which way the vote is going to go.

A lot of folks I see go to restaurants and drink alcohol at lunch and/or dinner and drive. Should be ban alcohol sales in restaurants?

Maybe CVS and the rest of the pharmacies should sell legal weed. Good question. Depends on the regulations. The dispensaries are going to get awfully busy if they do not allow other stores to sell it. Recreational marijuana will be taxed higher than medical marijuana so anyone that has a current card i guess should keep it. Not sure. This was an interesting read on the subject. www.floridatoday.com/story/news/2024/05/31/florida-medical-marijuana-cards-recreational-amendment/73890228007/
