I buy the largest garbage disposal I can get because my wife sticks anything she can in it. I asked her why and she say it makes the garbage stink less.
Counting the days to replacing this one, it was the builder grade models and its having a hard life.

If you read the instructions there is a whole lot of stuff you are not supposed to put in it. Ya might want to have her do some reading ** ** I say this knowing it won't change anything.

It makes a difference if you are on septic vs. sewer what goes down the disposal. You can really shorten the life of a septic system by putting too much fat / grease etc down the drain.

I won’t have a disposal. Don’t like installing them in the homes we sell. Nothing but trouble. Especially in older homes with cast iron pipes.
I can’t even imagine having one on a septic system
That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen

I do 98% of the cooking in my house so she doesn’t have the chance to ruin it, and I hardly use it as I’d rather just take the trash out. My wife can unfortunately barely boil water, which is kinda odd as her mother is a fantastic cook. That said my dad was a wonderful woodworker, and as much as I sat in the shop with him growing up and helping I never could get the knack for it.

She only sticks it in to the 2nd knuckle. I can't take the whole thing.

I bought my house as a new construction and it came with a Badger disposal (which I figured was the cheapest the builder could find). It lasted 15 years! I replaced it with another Badger from the Home Depot (sure enough, it was their bargain priced brand) and that one’s still going strong 10 years later. Sometimes the cheap stuff works better than the fancy crap.

It only took 10 years threats of violence and abandonment to get my wife and kids to stop putting rice and macaroni/pasta in it

I hate the dang things, and anytime I'm speaking to a homeowner about one I strongly recommend that they let us remove it and toss it in the trash.
