Best I can tell they are describing a system along the lines of many locks in the world which require no pumps to function. Would need a elevation map of the area to ascertain the possibility, something one has to imagine the scientists employed. I've got to pull up GE and see what the Nile is doing right there......though.....what it is doing now as compared to what it was doing almost 5000 years ago is a question.
