Went out today, forecast was a little off. My first mate didn't want to go too far out since we'd have to bear the chop all the way there and back and I agreed with her, so we trolled a seam around 120 and then another likely looking area around 300 hoping for blackfins- no takers. Dreams of mahi didn't even enter our heads. Tried drifting a deep butterflied ballyhoo to no avail and I worked a speed jig to hook a 20 lb. amberjack on a medium spinner so I got my reps in for the day. Everyone knows the mahi just aren't around, but its not like we Floridians are taking more than our share. Are they being decimated somewhere else before they get to us? Or is there a mahi plague? I have yet to hear any explanation from anyone. Thoughts?

When all the small ones are caught there's no chance for the rest.
