Bear snack.........wet flatwoods today................

I do it now and then myself.
Taylor County is full of Cabbage Palms and us folks eat them all the time.
We really don't have many Bears here so we've taken over their roles.

If the day-of weather parameters were such that it was safe and IF the acres to be burned were mostly sand hill or the like where they is no duff or significant other built up organic material to cause residual smoke problems then it does make sense.

In  the normal course of things when we'd see the greatest number of natural fires is now....May-June. As a consequence the plants which evolved here respond best to burns this time of year.

This is also the time of year when the most good can be done with fire as far as knocking back hardwoods that have creped into areas where they would not be without human fire suppression.

In a perfect world Louann and I would be able to light off a good number of stand on our place right now, the ones with isolated wetlands and creek edges in them being of particular note. Those areas generally will not burn and so become unnaturally thick, and they build up a pile of organic material. Of course that would lead to a lot of smoking as that material smolders for days and days....which is what SHOULD BE ALLOWED to happen. 

But......no permits the last few days......which I understand.
