Well the We Can't Get the Forecast Right Agency was wrong again yesterday. The 15-20 was actually 10 or less. I didn't plan on going so didn't get up early, but a friend off Key Largo called me to say the day was beautiful and I decided to try at it alone. My target was one Black Grouper since that's all you can keep and really it's all I need for a great dinner. Lines in the water off Pacific at 11:30, grouper in the boat at 12:20. Not huge, but 14-15# which is the ideal eating size. Didn't try for anything else.
My friend south of Carysfort got 2 muttons and a yellow jack in 120' with strong current. He then moved north to a wreck and hooked a nice fish on the first drop and it got sharked. After that each drop produced a shark hookup so they quit.

Thanks for the report, was waiting to see if you caught anything. I think I passed you in the channel on your way out. Looks like you had electric reels, so I wasn’t sure if you do any deep dropping out of that area.

I take electrics as a deep drop backup for sure, but also when I'm bottom fishing on the edge I have a descending device with a 2# sinker ready on one of the electrics. Just after I caught the grouper an FWC boat stopped me and their first question was where was my descending device. Gotta have it on board and ready to use whenever bottom fishing.

I’ve got one of those fancy ones (Seaqualizer) that clips on and supposedly opens up at the desired depth. I have used it on small Snowies and have never seen one float up again. I still think when there eyes are popped that they don’t have a chance but I may be wrong.
