While I am no fan of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION I will point out, based on experience on the ground, that folks from south of the border will and do work. In my view their work ethic is far more in line with what was expected of us when we were young. In a way...............we are reenergizing with legal immigrants what the welfare state and the namby pambyization of education and entertainment have conspired to render extinct.

They came over, worked and made something of themselves cause there were no handouts. Now we got handouts and they know it.

Milton Friedman made the argument that open borders only work when the welfare state does not exist as a option for immigrants. Sounds harsh, but it's how it was for most of history.....and more tellingly it is what drew to us those with the greatest drive and the most willingness to risk to get ahead.

Maybe work for robber barons at slave wages, etc. And yes their are millions of Horatio Alger stories but millions of other stories as well. Someone mentioned work ethic, if you hire someone to plant trees, plant and harvest fruits and vegetables, repair or replace your roof, mow your lawn, etc. you are dealing with someone who probably works 70 hours a week, gets paid low wages or farm wages, sends a lot of their money home to their elderly family members.

I'd say the majority of current immigrants (legal and illegal) have useful skill sets whether it be a laborer or a skilled craftsman. Most work for a living and work hard. The only reason the Irish spoke English here was because the majority spoke English in Ireland.

Hey a lot of the illegals are contributing to the country’s economy through creative skills learned from earlier arrivals. They learn so much quickly, like get tapped in an accident and sue the guy with insurance for great bodily harm. Recently a friend tapped a vehicle that swerved in front of her and stopped quickly. Traffic officer checked both vehicles and said no one is at fault. My friend offered to fix the small dent (three inches) and they traded contact and insurance info. The “new resident” is here illegally, doesn’t have vehicle insurance or a job, but all three in the car are now suffering great physical pain and anguish. The pain and anguish can be cured with three hundred thousand dollars according to their attorney. Friend’s attorney said not to worry they will be taking care of it and will probably just settle with the complainant. This is pure fraud and is part of the reason we all pay more for insurance.
Something has got to give…

I do love your passion. Have been bit a few times and don't really care as much about the woes of others - they are big people, know what they are doing, got it handled. My forefathers came here on both maternal and paternal sides, worked in factories, bought houses, raised families, and the level of income and education rose with each new generation. Sounds pretty successful. They cared about stuff like that and there is no reason any other family units can not do as well. Robber barons are the guys who pick up the illegals at Home Depot and use em for low day wages to make an extra $100 or $200 on a project while skipping out on insurance, worker's comp, etc. Big companies like Amazon, Walmart, etc. the big money places can't/won't touch em cause of the labor laws and folks eager to turn them in. And no - they don't do my yardwork, they do work hard but I'm not for hiring illegals. I have also heard directly about the wire transfers, western union etc. My BiL works at Publix to get away from his wife a bit. He does the transfers and it is usually "tan people" sending money out of country. Some paint it as saving the elderly and feeding their families but those folks are in socialist and communist countries - they don't really need the money. They are getting funds to ship the next level of family members to US. That's how it works. Something many Americans have forgotten about - honor to the family and such. White lady i work with said her gramma & pappi were share cropper/traveling fruit picker types. They would follow the ag seasons around in AL. Pretty interesting in that they were white and did this kind of manual labor in the 1900s, yet still raised families that prospered and advanced each generation. They do stuff for the next generation, to help them succeed.

Those countries are some of the poorest in the world with unemployment rate that are astronomical.

You get the idiot of the day award. You're citing Venezuela The Venezuela I knew, and fished, and almost married one of their beauties was immensely wealthy, until your commie friends took over. That being said, the vast majority of illegals croosing the border are Mexican. They are coming here for economic gain. And btw, there aren't gangs in Mexico to run from either. Cartels yes, and the illegals pay the cartels for "safe passage". Damn, you are stupid.
