Sitting in my open garage, waiting for my wife to get ready to leave on a short trip this afternoon. As my wife opened the door to the garage, I hear a loud boom. To me it sounded liker a main breaker tripping as I was sitting near the electric panel, or a transformer blowing, but there were no breakers tripped and the lights remained on. AS I got in our Excursion, I noticed the rear control for the AC was hanging down on the wires. When I climbed in the back to push it back into place, I noticed the spare tire cover was blown to hell and the tire was sticking out. It was only inflated to 70#s and rated for 90. But I guess it's going to cost me a trip to the tire store as I have a couple long trips in the next month

That is strange. Don't remember ever hearing of that before. BTW, EXCURSION" ?? Thats a pretty big vehicle. What happened to your "Smart car"?

I don't think I've ever heard of that either.
Better on the rack then going down the road I reckon.

Never had one blow before.
We did have a tractor trailer blow a tire right next to us on the highway. Percussion moved my hair!

Exactly what I was going to ask! Man Firestone has really gone downhill.

It generally happens due to age. Spare tires are not ever checked or replaced due to age. When my truck or trailers get new tires the spare is included.

usually use one of the replaced tires as a spare. They aren’t dry rotted, etc, just worn.

When I buy new tires, I have the best of the ones being taken off mounted as a “fresh” spare.

Holy smokes. My spare for my Excursion is in the back cargo area because it's to big for the spare carrier. If that think blows its gonna take the window out. This is our second Excursion and as muxh as she wanted another one she now wants something that gets at least double digit mileage

Exactly what I was going to ask! Man Firestone has really gone downhill. Firestone was bought out by Bridgestone aprox 1986.

I had two sets of those Firestone tires that shed the threads like a recap back around 2000. Turned me against Firestone.
