YUP ...If you want to Run for them..Gulf stream is still out there off Boca Grande but the Stream is a bunch closer in the Keys and Palm Beaches. I don't go OffShore to catch Grouper or Snapper. Big Hard Fish for me in the Blue Water...

Big Hard Fish for me in the Blue Water... Yep... And with the Stream being closer to the Keys and Palm Beach, every swinging dick in the world is out there hammering on the fish. Personally I would take the long run and have the fish to myself. TRT, you ran from S FL to the Big Bend for better hunting and fewer people, it's the same with fishing.

Bacon said best in the U.S. Ohmy, you said best in the world. That’s a slight difference… I stand corrected on world vs US. I would rather offshore fish in the Keys than Boca Grande, that's my opinion. If someone asked me.. where would you choose to live to do the best inshore and offshore fishing I would tell them to live in Islamorada. Catch the same species and not have to drive the boat 3 hours to start fishing.

Sometimes Key West, many times Islamorada, many times Marathon. I will leave the rest of it out. Belize ain't for everyone. But I will guarantee you I can walk 15 feet. Repeat that, 15 feet. And catch a permit and a bonefish. From my front door. I still think the Keys are great. We don't have things down here that the Keys have. Like effing people and effing boats. And effing traffic. And effing cars. 35 years ago we'd run from Key West to the Marquesas (sorry spelling) which is a good 30 miles from KW. Only to find 3 assholes already there. We don't have that problem here. I'd wager, in my lifetime, we will never have that problem here.

I could put a redfish, snook, trout, and tarpon in the boat before 8:00 a.m. I could run offshore and catch a limit of grouper and snapper by 10:00 a.m. short run maybe 12 miles. Same day as above. I could, and did, slam the throttles down on 750 hp on my yellowfin, and go catch pelagics at 600'. Dolphin, wahoo, tuna, whites, and blues. same day as above. That ain't bragging. Just a fact.

But to reflect on what I said....you cannot catch an inshore super grand slam, and an offshore super grand slam, in the Tortugas. Much less on the same day. And the 90 mile run from KW isn't worth it to me.

Times have changed here. Inside of 40-50 miles the gulf is overfished now. Im sure you would catch a few, just not like before. Belize is as dreamy as hell to me.

Like really. I felt overfishing 15 years ago. Bothers me to hear that. But you know me. You know where I live. We get some commercial guys from down south....my boys arrest them and I sink their boat. We get a new spot. You know I'm fanatical about it.

As bad as the regulations are getting in Florida and Gulf waters I could see many people heading to South America on fishing vacations.

Mr Whitebacon. Be careful that they all don’t head down to your island and overfish it there 👎😞

Mr Whitebacon. Be careful that they all don’t head down to your island and overfish it there 👎😞 The good part here, is that we are in charge. It is a infantile fishery. Most normal people are scared to come here. They don't understand. I will not permit this fishery to get ruined. We control visitor traffic. Air traffic. I'm a psycho about it. I've fished all over the world. Saw many.places ruined. This is the greatest fishing destination on the planet. Ain't no one coming down here to take it from us.

I hope that you are able to always maintain the control that is necessary to keep your fishery great
A couple commercial trawlers anchored around your reef may decimate it.

There are other areas on the east coast that would embarrass the Keys. Not going to say where due to googans using technology will just wear them out. The Tortugas are similar to what fishing was like in the Islamorada area 50 years ago. Still pretty good.

I agree - the Keys are a shell of what they used to be - on the shore and on the water. Where else can we get a 30-mile traffic jam than early lobster season. We used to go every year. Will go again but for what you get, there are plenty of places with less traffic and just as much fishing.

We do a 3 or 4 night Tortugas trip every year - old FS Forum buddies. It's like bottom fishing boot camp. Great time, but exhausting. We do catch some dolphin and wahoo trolling on the way out and back, but it's primarily grouper and snapper.

He always brings in a haul.

Welp, I've never had enough money to fish like most of you, but in my previous life I've seen some fishing (and other things at sea) like most of you will never see. There is a very good chance I will have to live out my days living vicariously through those of you who have been blessed with the means to do it in real time. Keep on keeping on, men! Your exploits are being enjoyed from afar.

I did a few trips on my uncle’s roller boat for Spanish and Kings where we had to cut the net and give it to another boat to haul but the 70’s are long gone also. BTW glad to see you back.

Thanks Conchy. Been around, just busy as a one legged man in a ass kicking contest.
I won't disagree with you, but to be perfectly honest, these days I'm most content getting behind a cane pole with a minnow hauling specks, or a fly rod wearing out the bream.

I've taken up Ditch Fishing when the water levels are low in the Cypress Swamps and the fish are forced into the Culverts and ditches. Lot's of fun and I'm the Mudfish champ of our group. I target them with a popping cork and a Crappie jig about 6 inches under it. Sure are fun and good fighters. A Trophy is many things to different folks...
