Sporting weapons = hunting weapons. Weapons for the sport of hunting. Ask anyone trained in law enforcement about the best weapon for self defense and it would be either a 12 gauge, or a handgun. You all know what I meant.

7% of the population commits 50% or more of the murders in the usa. dont get all crazy and triggered by your white guilt just spitting some facts. also we have a huge mental health issue in this country at this time. mind your own business, keep your mouth shut,be nice to people. that and carry a vp40 and go to range regularly you should be fine but keep a eye out for white supremacists our government says there the greatest danger.

Maybe they're right about Chicago land.
“The armed driver of a red Jeep Wrangler was identified as Brian Schimian, who was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless driving and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Richmond Police Department.”

Argue all you want, but guns do kill people, and the types of guns used in mass shooting bear little relationship to sporting gear. Once again, I'm not against owning or having guns. Just think that certain types of weapons are not needed in the hands of homicidal maniacs. If guns killed people, then everyone in the USA would be dead already....but you knew that.

I pull my Ruger EDC 9 on folks almost every day.. Homeless bums at the red light , Folks that cut me off on the road , Folks in front of me waiting to buy my Lotto tickets at the Beer store. Haven't had to shoot anybody yet and the Beer Store guy gives me Free Lotto tickets sometimes....Winning

If you feel safe enough with a revolver a 44spl. Is a good comfortable weapon and they have some great loads available for it. Just a suggestion from an old man.

If you're going to buy a gun to carry, the important thing is to get one you will carry. Not everyone will want the weight if a 45 or even a 44 and while small, they will leave it in the vehicle most days. I carried a .380 for years and even had to shoot a guy with it. It removed the threat even though the guy lived. Stopping the threat is the important part. I also carried a 9mm for a while. Now I carry a S&W .38 model 642. With arthritis in my hands, semi autos are a pain, literally.
So, whatever you buy to carry, be sure it is a gun small enough and light enough to carry comfortably. The caliber wont matter if it sits in the vehicle because it is uncomfortable.

Check out the Charter Arms “Boomer”. 44 spl with basically the same imprint as the 642. There are many different loads commercially available for the 44 spl now. Brings it close to the stopping power of a 45acp. Well they fit real nice in your front pocket. 👍

The S&W is 14oz unloaded. My .380 was 8 ounces and you would forget it was in your pocket.

6oz more weight on the gun and about 40% more stopping power. I’ll carry the extra weight.
I have jeans worn out from it being in my pocket for so long. I actually think I have a dent in my leg also. I have been carrying that type 44spl in that pocket since 1976.
Before they had a short barrel I had the best machinist I ever knew cut the barrel off of a few for me. Must have been a good idea because Charter Arms started making them years later.

What kind of 380 did you have that was that light? KelTec. Great little gun except for some of the early models. You could load it with +P ammo. It was not a gun you wanted to shoot a lot of targets with, but it had good close range accuracy. It served me well for years. Ruger makes a .380 that is 11oz.

Carried a 357 magnum for 12 years (worked in a very bad neighborhood) in a gun pouch. First off, everybody knew what was in the bag, and when unzippered was really convenient access. Had to pull it out a couple of times, but didn't need to use it as the potential perps saw what was happening and hauled ass rather quickly. Don't carry anymore as I don't feel the need to. Working in the ghetto teaches alertness.

An LCP is a decent gun. You could carry it in your dress shirt's front pocket if you wanted to. Could also place a whole magazine's worth of shots inside a soda can at a car length. Just sayin. Nothing wrong with 642. As for needing a .44 over a .380, that's personal preference.

Unfortunately I was shot but even worse I had to shoot 3 people. There is no brandishing for me. As it comes out the trigger is being depressed.
Shooting those people bothered me more than getting shot myself.
