Couldn't pass up the weather at the end of last week and got out on Friday. Left out of Indian Pass looking for red grouper and legal snappers. Had to sort through some huge ARS to finally get to some beeliners. In the mix were plenty of triggers, gags, and of course ARS. In years past, would have had a nice box. I'm sure we released >12 15-20# red snapper.
Flipper showed up at one point and spent about 20 minutes dragging our red snapper about 200 yards away and then would let them go and wait for us to get them close to the boat and do it all over again. I guess he got bored of that and moved along. Was hoping to pull some mangroves up, but they weren't cooperating with the chum. Either way, it was perfect weather and a nice break from the big city.

I fish out of the pass often, and have had a porpoise do the same thing to us. I wonder if it's the same one.

Snapper does taste better than a tennis ball.

I bottom fished for decades off the SW coast of FL. 70-80% of the time we had a dolphin hanging around, munching on our throw-backs. I have never seen a dolphin eat a fish on a line. And it would have been easy for them. Sharks, jewfush, yes. Dolphin just seemed way smarter and more wary to me.

A few trips back we had one that would steal the snapper off the line and then toss it in the air in front of us. As smart as they are, I'm sure they have some sense of humor.

There's days that they're worse than the dang sharks.
