My crew tries to have at least one squirrel killing and cat fishing trip every fall. Camp 3 days middle of ANF on Ochlocknee river. Used to be a dozen or so of us now down to half that. The younger folks don't seem to care for places that don't have wifi.

Always ready for a squirrel hunt. My first Fl hunt ever was in the Osceola NF for squirrel. Often now use a .32 cal mzl so I scare as many as I cook. Lol.

My son will be ready soon. We've been working on introducing gun safety and guns to him. He's shot my suppressed 10/22 a couple times too. Need to pick up a savage rascal for him though.

There is a big slowdown in deer hunting and activity between Thanksgiving and Christmas around here. The tree rats pay the price. Nothing screams Fall louder than Fried squirrel w/ biscuits and gravy.

4ward, I was about to say the same thing as you. I hunt in north central like you I believe and after the rut in muzzleloader and the first few weeks of rifle season I switch to squirrels. Heck I have been feeding them corn all year... I need to start shooting some racoons but do not have someone who would want them. I like to make what we always called perlo. Basically squirrels and rice.

Squirrel and snipe hunting have become more enjoyable to me than any other kind of fl hunting other than turkeys. At least I can show and go when I want, like a free man.

As indicated above small game hunting is definitely an enjoyable pursuit. Squirrels, doves, snipe are great here in our area. It takes me back to my earlier years.

Here one. In Italy small game is very traditional. Although I like so much wild boar game (driven hunts, “braccata” in Italian) I spent a lot of time hunting woodcocks (amazing game) and pheasants.

Nice short video Balla. In reference to the woodcock in the old days we had a good Ohio spot that got flights of woodcock in late October. Always tried to get a few. Number 9 shot and a real open choke was the ticket.

Number 9 shot and a real open choke was the ticket. Here is a very traditional game and a lot of specific ammunitions and shotguns are available. Personally is the small game I like the most. Very, very hard (difficult hiking in very complicated scenarios), very challenging shots and the need to training very well the dogs (I haven't the dog but I'm lucky enough to have as game buddy my cousin who is a great trainer). I will post some action clips as I can. Meantime this the scenario we enjoy during our woodcock hunts

…and interesting shotgun. Tell more please. Handcrafted? 1926 Ah Fox 16ga Sterlingworth.
My pups point rabbits as well as they do quail. Makes for an interesting flush. I have taken many wild quail, rabbits, dove, woodcock, snipe, ducks and pigs with the dogs. The oldest is 12 and his daughter is 5. Great breed.

About the dogs if they are good hunters like they are beautiful I have no doubts they are amazing 👍

Interesting story, thanks. I thought it was English made (despite the pistol grip stock, pretty rare on English double barrels) since the apparently fine quality (not common on US guns, very solid and reliable but rarely so fine quality).

I hunt deer for meat only. I'm getting that way about turkeys. I get close to zero enjoyment doing either if I don't go home with a kill.
But I love me some small game hunting. It's about the only hunting I do for the pleasure of it. I just did a coon hunt tonight with my new thermal scope and a .30 carbine air rifle. I'm going to post it up in my thread about the scope in the general hunting group and when I finish editing the video, on my chicken thread in off topic.

Took me about a week to find it but I do have a picture from my first Florida squirrel hunt. Should be 1967 in the Osceola NF. Was in the Navy stationed in Mayport. Think the date was 11/15. Seem to remember everything opened 11/15 back then. I have an old NF map and know almost the precise spot. Went back in 2016 (49 years later) and hunted them again. Only got 2. Slipping. Hope to get there again this year for a little campout and squirrel hunt.

Hate to try and add 2 pictures to same post. This picture from the secret squirrel spot in ONF. Should have put in the Spot Burning section.

Very cool Joe. However, in keeping with the true spirit of spot burning, specific details of the area must be presented to post in the Spot Burning section. There are no secrets among Burners...

Great pics Joe. Looks like an old REM 870 leaning against the car. If so - I have two of that vintage.

Gave that gun to a friend. It was later stolen in a house burglary. Still in the wind.

The car... Is that a ford falcon? No - Toyota Tacoma Messing with you. It's a Chevy Nova convertible. Think 1962. Wife owned it when we got married in Feb 67.
