There was a 2 acre food plot on an Alabama club that I belonged that over the years I bet the members found 2 or 3 hundred points on it. They were made of quartz and not as pretty as the ones that I have found in Florida.
I love to find them, but rarely keep them. The thrill to me is the find.

It is pretty cool to find an arrowhead. It always leads me to wonder how it got there. A missed shot, a dead critter, simply lost by the person carrying it. We donāt know.

I knew an old man on Sugarloaf key that found and collected Indian artifacts. He had quite a collection. He has long since passed but I hope that whoever inherited his estate did not dispose of his lifelong treasures.

We hunted a farm about 50 miles Southwest of the big city. The farmer was a good friend of my uncleās. We hunted it exclusively as he didnāt allow anyone else on his property.
He had a logging company clear out a field next to his woods one summer. He told us ākidsā to look down as we crossed the field while walking into the woods to hunt squirrels and crows.
I donāt believe I have ever seen so many artifacts. We filled our game vests and had to go back to the car to empty them. When we left we stopped and thanked Mr. Kennedy. He said it was the biggest Indian encampment in the area many years ago. However he swore us to silence as he didnāt want any archaeologists messing up his farming. We never said anything but in the following years we always took our time crossing that field with our eyes on the ground.
I wish Mr Kennedy was still alive. It would be great to take the grandchildren to the site.

Kolomoki Mounds is just north of Blakely, Ga. I've got farmer clients that own and farm land adjacent to Kolomoki and they find all sorts of arrowheads, pottery and spearheads.
Most of the time they are broken or chipped really bad but some of them have some really nice pieces.

About 30 years ago a neighbor showed me a- JADE - arrow head that he found on St Georgeās Island
He said that experts told him that the stone was from the East and the only way it could have gotten there was by Europeans that traded with the Indian people

One of the firemen working our shift during the shutdown was from Lanark Village, as was 6-7 previous generations. He brought in a framed display of some of the prizes he & his family have collected over the generations. Said they had buckets of them, picked up on the beach, Dog Island and digging back in the woods. The bird points he brought in were of incredible craftsmanship & color. As a kid, we'd find nice stuff in the creeks around Gainesville and as I got older, dug some good stuff in Marion & Putnam County - but nothing like I saw come out of the Crawfordville area. |

One of my wife's nephews found a nice one. You could hold it up to the light and it was translucent solid blood red.
The same nephew that was arrested for 69 counts trespassing on GA Power property. If you remember that story.
