Played with fire................. What kind of results did you get with as wet as it is here? What we worked on today is sand hill. Our flatwoods are soaked, water between the beds and in all the ditches. The sand hill does not hold water and with the bright sun, steady wind ( 8 mph avg. ) and low humidity ( hit 30% around 2:00 pm ) the fuels there will often burn the day after a rain. Of course we burned it awfully early in the year so the vegetative response will not be the best but as we are so far behind this year it's better to get something done, even if seasonality is a little off, than to have it slip away completely. Last year, by January 20th, Louann and I had pulled 8 burn permits, all but 1 of which we used. This is the first one the weather has allowed us to accomplish this year. The hard thing, the thing driving the decision to not wait until April or even May to do the sand hill is that we've so much flatwoods that need work to where once it does dry out some we'll be using every tolerably good weather day to work on them. If the Forest Service is issuing Sunday ( gusts so they might not ) we'll get at another section of the sand hill........

I tripped on a ladder someone left on the floor of a house we are doing. Went down hard on the cement floor. I must have put my hands out to break my fall, (useless gesture). I thought I had separated my shoulder, have done it to that arm twice already. My son (works for me) took me to Panama City to the ER. They x rayed it, and told me that it wasn't separated or broken, but the inside of the joint "looked like a grenade went off". The Doc asked me if I was right handed and when I said yes, he told me it was a good thing because I was probably not gonna get back most of the strength and mobility in the left arm. I'm gonna see my Ortho Monday am, and hope he's got better news. I'm too old to try and find a new occupation. And, in a dumb ass move by me, I chose to exempt myself from Workers Comp. My insurance should handle most bills, but no loss work pay. The dang thing freaking hurts pretty good. ER Doc told me to take Tylenol or Ibroprofen neither of which works worth crap for me.

Long freaking day, still watching UFC after 7 hours of football.
We went early this morning at daylight, like 5:45 our time. Loaded the well with what I think are cigar minnows, not sure what the locals call them. They are super hardy, like miniature submarines. All on cast net just along the reef, 25-30' of water.
We move like 1/2 mile to the deep water 300' plus. Tuna are going nuts on a couple acres of baitvvv...we have light tackle, my standard Loomis with Shimano 4000's with 20 lb PP synthetic that tests much closer to 30. Instantly two 80 lb yellowfin. I swear they bit them the second they hit the water.
We kept the first two. Caught probably 12-14 but I wasn't counting. A couple of pigs close to 200lbs. Probably burned 5 gallons of gas. Me and the neighbors all ate fresh sashimi on the dock.
I have this kid neighbor who's my fishing buddy, I think he's 17 or 18. Both he and I can beat a tuna in about 10-15 minutes on the light tackle. Of course virtually lock down drag and we put the pressure on them as much as we can.
To my fellow old farts here, take a kid fishing. Any kind of fishing. The impact it has is immesurable for both of you. Someday they'll take you fishing. And you get a best buddy for life.

Poop patrol, damn horses ....they expect me to feed them too! Then I sat in the sun and watched my Jack Russel try to nail the squirrels. He was hunting over a bait field, the bird feeders, try as he might. JR 0 - Tree rats 1 My German Shepard loves chasing squirrels and never catches them. She had one toying with her one day. Dog would be on one side of the tree, squirrel would run down the other side and look at Gypsy and run back up just to see the dog run. She has caught a possum or two, but that has been it.

We're not getting any younger and I hate to hear that. I've got aches and pain's from injuries I had 50 years ago. I hear ya about that comp insurance. I did the same thing but my agent told me I was an idiot. He said, you couldn't get cheaper insurance and disability anywhere. I carried on myself for 42 years. Never used it once. Go figger. Good luck on it and hopefully the ortho is a little more optimistic. See if the ortho will give you a script for Celebrex or Mobic. They are a NSAID also but way more effective. Hopefully you can find some rehab around PSJ and not have to drive to PC everytime. Is the hospital in PSJ still crappy?

From what we have been told, it's worse than it ever was. I don't know how they stay open, there's never more than 10-12 cars in the parking lot. The waiting room is empty most of the time. I went to the HCA one in PC. We were coming from Clarksville, so it was a lot closer anyway. My appointment is in the morning, hoping for some good news.
edit to add: Thanks for the Celebrex recommendation. It's a lot better than Tylenol.

Haha....Gladdy is a quiet, gentle girl but she goes nuts over Ground Squirrels and there's lots of 'em here. One day, coming back from a hike to the Dragonfly Petroglyphs she suddenly dove into a clump of brush and there was a helluva thrashing around in there. Seconds later a big GS came bolting up onto the trail and across to another clump with Gladdy right on its' butt. She caught it - 1st and only one ever - and killed it with one mighty chomp. I hadn't realized till then just how powerful a bite she has. (forgot about the PIA picture attaching thing on this forum. Wish they'd fix it) This is a huge Ground Squirrel, one of the largest I've seen - a very large female, it turned out and she was really strutting when she brought it back to show off. For a size reference, Gladdy's 16" at the shoulder....medium sized pup.

Good news at the Doc office. There's nothing new screwed up with my shoulder. The (Hot) PA said that the fall just irritated it, and gave me some exercises to do at home. She did tell me that if I didn't do them regularly, my shoulder wouldn't get much better. Besides the fact that if I don't recover strength and mobility I won't be bringing in much of a paycheck, I tried holding one on my rifles to my shoulder, and decided quickly to refrain from doing that for a while. Pretty sure trying to keep a gag out of the rocks without serious shoulder improvement won't be easy, either. So I have plenty to keep me motivated.

Good news. Glad to hear it.
If the Celebrex doesn't work, try Mobic. Just be careful doing any of them for extended periods of time.

Cast and blast. Shot a handful of ducks and then went and caught a few trout and redfish. Super low tide made it a little difficult but a great morning. Was cleaned up, had lunch and in the office at 1:00.

Was cleaned up, had lunch and in the office at 1:00. Clean and ship me a couple of those ducks. Overnight. I don't know how you have the patience on those winter low tides. Don't be all sanctimonious about going to work. At least you have a job. I called your boss today and he cited your piss poor attendance record. Children are starving in Africa, and you called in sick. BTW, throw in some cafe con leche, with the shipment. And it better be authentic. Not that fake shit. Oh, and some deviled crabs from you know where. And don't send me that sissy Crystal hot sauce.

As I mentioned on another thread, the pressure vents for the cabin were leaking on my Dodge Ram. I ordered replacements and installed them the other day. You have to pull the rear seat to do this and since my dog is the only one who travels in the back seat area, I decided not to put them back. But I needed a floor and wanted a rear wall due to the bolts and such. Plywood was $30 a sheet for 1/4 thick and I would need to cut it to size and paint it. But I found some cheap 30" x 60" white plastic folding tables at Walmart for $39 that was the exact size I needed. So I removed the legs, took some measurements for some mounting holes, and installed them today. Fits great and functions perfectly for my dog with a cushion put down. She even has more room without the seat in the way.

Redid my Deer fence protecting my Rose bushes out front. I'm working with one hand . Got a 6inch slit and a hole about 1/2 deep big around as a silver dollar across my left hand. Skin cancer removal...Sucks Better than not having them removed........!!! Experience here. Remember when we were young, all those burns, the blisters and the peeling? I do. And even when it was not apparent by the blistering and peeling damage was being done out there on the boat. How many hours spent working in the sun, hauling traps or setting nets....no hat, no shirt, no sunglasses....... Now.....Mohs is my friend......even if I still detest the smell....AND SOUND!!!...... of burning meat at they cauterize around a ear or eye. But, so long as they get all the ugly black ones ( Twice on them. ) and the not so bad basil and squamous......it's all good. Heal up in no time and Louann can rip a stich clear with the best of them so don't have to go back for that. Oh......and what did we do today? Checked the two burns we completed Friday and Saturday last. Checked on a culver repair. Surveyed a couple of timbre stands that need thinning and burning. Found a bit of orange period pottery in the creek by one of the stands when we got sidetracked messing about. Changed game chips. Let the WMD know we'll be running dogs on the hogs in the morning.......and a few other small items. Tomorrow.......got two friends with dogs coming.......at sunrise. Plenty of exercise to follow...............

Ya might want to spring for the extra money and get good hurricane/impact windows. I know your not likely to get a hurricane up where you are. They will pay for themselves on energy savings over the long run. They also cut out the outside noise. I live not far from TIA and can't hear the planes at all. One of the best investments i ever made. Cut my electric bill by 22%

Today I put a new battery in my brother's Chrysler 200. I have to remove the left front tire to access it. You can't even see it under the hood. Looks like a pain in the ass. But the one he has dies if the car sits for a few days or it is cold. I think it is 5 or 6 years old, so it has served it's purpose.

Doubt I ever do it.

Yesterday I went to have my prosthetic leg worked on. They replaced some buckles, made some alignment adjustments, gave me some more toe down so I could get a stiffer roll on the ankle. Chated up some new patient's getting fitted for prosthetics. It help to hear from someone who has been through the process and to encourage them that they will be walking and more independent soon. Also it helps me to see how much I have progressed in last 3 years.

They have a high insulation number as we do get cold. I replaced them as they were the original windows from the 70s. Cloudy and really messed up the view. We don't worry about noise up here unless it's a bear farting

So far I've raked the neighbors oak leaves off my damn lawn! Also, moved a few gallons of fuel from my generator hurricane storage cans to the wife's car. Will "exercise" the generator for a bit today and will get fresh e-free gas today or tomorrow, add Sta Bil to it, and move the fuel currently in the generator to the wife's car and then fill the generator back up to the tip top for storage. (Sorry, I know that last line rambled, but basically I'm getting rid of all the "old" fuel (3-4 months old) and get the generator filled up with fresh E-free dosed with Sta Bil. )
