A NJ man caught a 67 lb 7 oz king. It was 5'-1 1/2" long. It beat the old record by over 13 lbs. Caught on a conventional reel with 20 lb braid. Whatever a conventional reel is.

Yes the old record was 54lbs. The world record was caught by an Indiana man out of Ft Lauderdale 97 lbs. He was on his honeymoon he'd only been married for a week.

Whatever a conventional reel is. is that a state record? A conventional reel is like Penn a 4/0. Its used with the reel on top of the rod, unlike a spinning reel where the reel hangs below the rod. They come in all kinds of sizes, brands, models, and cost.

I’m assuming world record would be alltackle. A very primitive method that worked rather well. It wasn’t his targeted species. But the experienced father and son team were obviously prepared for it. I’m a big fan of Clark spoons. I like to fish them with a drail. Here’s the article.www.sportfishingmag.com/game-fish/record-new-jersey-king-mackerel/

I caught some bruiser bluefish in my late teens on a head boat that sailed out of sheepshead bay Brooklyn. I don’t think they were regulated at that time. The boat was the Blue Sea and we were actually south of Manasquan working diamond jigs. What a happy ending that trip was. 💪😁👍
