The Aquaholic V is down until Friday for service, so I had an early (7 a.m.) departure on the Pathfinder 2600 HPS with Marathon Mike and six dozen freshly caught mullet. The inlet was roaring and all of the jetty’s were crazy wild, so after a site seeing tour we started in Sailfish Point where we had multiple non-committal Snook bites. The glue just didn’t stick! Mike finally put a Snook in the boat near the Sandbar. We followed the incoming tide West stopping at docks along the way finding ghost towns. A dock in the middle river was on fire with the Snook bite, although again, the glue just wouldn’t stick. We had about twenty blow ups on that dock and the Snook just couldn’t catch the baits, very frustrating. Mike hooked a huge Snook, possibly over 40 inches and fought her for a few minutes, although she wrapped under some debris and we couldn’t get to her due to shallow water and broke off. We moved on to a few other docks where Mike hooked, fought, and landed a huge Jack, more commonly called a Jackasaurus! This was a fight to the finish, in close quarters with concrete pilings, docks, under and around the boat multiple times. Most would have never landed this huge fish, known as the best fighters pound for pound. Right after re-rigging, Mike again hooked a monster, 29.5 inch Snook and landed it after another lengthy fight. Mike had a great day………me, not so much, I landed a half dozen Catfish! Called it a day at 4:30 after 9.5 hours. Thank you Mike for the invite on your boat……..even though you made me run the trolling motor and take you to my honey holes, but I did enjoy the day.
