Looks like they have extended the season on ARS. Yes they have extended the 2023 recreational fall red snapper season which includes every Friday-Sunday throughout months of September,October, November as well as Labor Day and Thanksgiving day. This gives them a total 2023 red snapper season of 87 day. The Federally permitted vessel with Federal permits red snapper season for 2023 is from June 1st -August 24th. Which gives them a 2023 red snapper season of 85 days. I am a USCG licensed captain and run both Federal vessels and recreational vessels. All the pics on this thread is while I am running a federal vessel. So it’s allowed to keep red snapper until Thursday of next week. GONE FISHING

Some nice triggerfish in there too. They are some good eating to me. When I started fishing the gulf waters in the 70’s. I was always taught triggerfish were trash fish and we always threw them back. I never knew why maybe due to the toothy mouth looked a lot like a bad animal, their skin was like leather, they always had a white slim on them and last had a unusual smell to them. Then one day someone talked me into cleaning one and cooking it. Well from that day forward when we caught them I told crew I will take the triggerfish. Then I think around 2011 they said they were overfished put limit of 4 p/p and since then have started closed seasons. But yes I think Triggerfish are right tasty and when season is open always try to pickup some for the box. Well time for us to hunker down and wait the storm out.

Carried a few friends and their son bottom bumping on Tuesday last week. Of course not many bottom species to keep with red snapper, AJ’s and red grouper closed. Here are few pics from trip just to show pretty of red grouper still out there. Still got them some eats for dinner. Most all red grouper caught on squid.
