I know nothing about the family, but the kid seems to too young for AR. I'm sure I'm going to hear a lot of anecdotal stories...... The father of the mass shooting suspect accused of killing four people at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, told investigators this week he had purchased the gun used in the killings as a holiday present for his son in December 2023, according to two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation. Colt Gray, a 14-year-old student, is accused of killing two students and two teachers with an AR-style rifle in the Wednesday shooting. Nine more people were hospitalized. www.cnn.com/2024/09/05/us/winder-georgia-shooting-apalachee-high-school/index.html

Can't fix Crazy without ripping away Rights from millions of everyday people. Just one of the prices to pay living with Millions of people that have rights. I know this won't help the parents but if anything it's a failure on their part to a degree. They better look in the mirror before they blame me and my guns.

FBI knew these folks.
Gun folks teach their little ones how to shoot whatever they have.
I used to have a 22 or 12 ga in my truck all thru high school. They never got out and went after people.
I do agree that the parents have a large responsibility in this.

There are multiple reasons why there is an increase in this type of violence. Poor parenting, those hideous violent video games and mental illness going untreated are possibly all factors contributing to this problem.
Parents and gun owners should be responsible for their weapons. No weapon should be allowed to fall into the hands of a person who is capable of causing mayhem. We secure all of our weapons.
Finally I also had a savage double barrel 12 gauge at the age of 13. We were taught how to use and respect weapons. The youngsters nowadays just aren’t taught the same things as we were.

There is no justification for a 13/14 year old to have a compact weapon of this sort. There's a big difference between an AR and a long rifle/shotgun.
The FBI dropped nothing. Those that talk "gun rights" are willing to blame the FBI for not violating the kids "rights"? You can't have it both ways.
Are there solutions? Yes, but they're obscured by a variety of weak excuses.
I see where the father has been charged with multiple offenses. He and the kid should be locked up for the rest of their lives. It won't bring the dead back.
So y'all go argue till hell freezes over. Nothing will get done as most are too obstinate to ever agree on training and the control of weapons such these in the hands of younger people.
Winder is not a "hamlet". It's a pretty sophisticated town between Atlanta and Athens.
This will end up in politics as that's where stuff like this goes. Apologies and thoughts, and prayers won't change a thing.
I've have nothing more to say about this. It's close to home.
My niece is the nurse at Apalachee High school.

I don’t think it mattered what kind of firearm he had access to. The kid is a homicidal maniac. An “AR” didn’t make him do it. He could have done just as much with a semi-auto .22LR squirrel gun.

This one did hit close. Neighbor’s son goes there. Have other friends with cousins or grandkids that go there. The FBI dropped the ball last year when they turned info over to Jackson county sheriff. Kid should have been sent to detention school not put back in regular high school. The little POS killed an autistic child in a closet. So Ferris your niece works with the sheriffs sister in law?

I'm not sure he could have gotten a 22 long gun in. I heard/read, that he had taken the AR apart and brought it in in a duffel bag or backpack and then put it together once he got it in. I'm not sure if that's true, but it does make sense.

I grew up in Jackson County ... my high school girlfriend was from Winder ... which is in Barrow County
the gun culture is strong in that area ... living on the farm one of the things I enjoyed was target shooting ... I actually wore out a Winchester .22 ... I still have my .22 Colt Peacemaker
I mostly shot .22 because the ammo was more affordable ...
the area also has a long history of violence and lawlessness ...
I need to call back home and get their take on it.

Winder has changed a lot since you moved. Still vestiges of what you're talking about though.
The Billy Sunday Birt lifestyle has changed a bit.

It can take huge banana and drum magazines as well as come in a takedown model.

Winder has changed a lot since you moved. Still vestiges of what you're talking about though. The Billy Sunday Birt lifestyle has changed a bit. save your ammo boys, the Dixie Mafia shall rise again ... those vestiges are a real nuisance at times ... I went to high school with Janice Mangum ... didn't really know her though ... but she knew me ... everybody in school knew me ... for some reason A 15-year-old Jackson County student was arrested Wednesday after investigators said the youth referred to the Apalachee High School shooting and pledged to “finish the job to shoot another school in Jackson County." Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said Thursday that the threat was made on a school bus. She said there were witnesses to the threat and the teen was located and brought to the sheriff’s office for interviews. Afterward, the teenager was charged and was placed in the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville, the same facility where the suspect in the Apalachee High shooting is incarcerated. That 14-year-old, Colt Gray, is charged with four counts of murder.

Colin Gray, 54, was charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. An investigation is underway to determine if the AR-style weapon was purchased by the boy's father and given to him as a gift, sources with knowledge of the investigation told CBS News. "These charges stem from Mr. Gray knowingly allowing his son Colt to possess a weapon," announced Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, at a Thursday evening news conference. www.yahoo.com/news/colin-gray-father-of-suspected-apalachee-high-school-shooter-charged-in-murders-fbi-received-warnings-in-2023-172418585.htmlTo own a gun in GA, does a child have to reach a certain age?

With a scope, upgraded trigger, and bull-barrel, this is/was the weapon of choice for the Israeli Army in the West Bank. They use it to maim the knees of any native with the temerity to complain about the Hebrew boot on their neck.

The ar made it more convenient... easier for a 14 yo...made it turn key, more alluring maybe, and certainly more deadly - no hunting sa or shotgun is gonna have that capacity without a little work and buying stuff... that a mental 14 yo probably did not have the means to undertake. It is reasonable to think that the 2nd can still stand tall with regulations that make our country safer from guns. ...about 40,000 people die from guns every year...thats 14 deaths per 100,000 people - in the entire EU gun deaths are below 1 per 100,000

I strongly disagree with that statement. I feel the only thing that keeps the whack jobs in DC at least a little restrained is the fact that there are 10's of millions that are well armed. If that wasn't the case they'd just shove their agenda down our throats.
