The best tasting vegetables are bought in the roadside farmers stands. I’m heading out 60 miles and plan on hitting a few for sweet corn and tomatoes today and tomorrow. 😋
And it feels good to be helping the farmers by buying directly from them!

I can't wait for the fall. Will have plenty of them from the garden for about 7-8 months. We use them in all kinds of recipes. Y'all must can grow them longer. Matter season is done here in N FL. I'm in Clearwater(zone 10b) and don't get frost in the winter. They grow/fruit until around the end of April. I did keep some big tomatoes going from last spring all summer and planted new ones for the fall about a month ago. Should have lots of tomatoes soon.

I built some raised planter boxes and planted my fall garden. I hope to use these for future gardens. I planted some cabbage, rutabagas, and collards. If these two work well, I am going to add a third one for spring. First time trying this idea, I hope it works well.

I used to grow my own but I haven't grown a garden for a few years now. BUT, take some rutabaga roots and add to your collards. That's a great addition to the collards. Also, cook your collards and after they get done, add a cut up cabbage (depending on how many collards you have) to the pot and simmer until the cabbage is tender. That's great as well.

Has anyone ever ordered from Tomatoe growers supply? They are a great source of all types of heirloom and hard to find seed. Pretty cheap too. Some really hard to find pepper seed and some really funky types of tomatoes. I can't grow them. Nothing gets past the deer.

Couple more notes.
Anyone planting tomatoes crush a egg shell up and put it in the hole when you transplant them to the ground. Feed them banana water as well. Works well with peppers too.
Plant onions with your tomatoes and peppers too. It helps with pest.

What kind of soil did you use? Garden soil with fertilizer. The brand was Stay Green. Is it soil with chips of wood or more loose soil? I tried some organic stuff that had to many wood chips in it last year and wasn't as happy with the results compared to some of my other beds with loose better soil. I added the chipper stuff the the bottoms of new beds and put better soil on top of that.

I have never been able to successfully grow a garden, which sucks as I love to cook. Need to do some research and try my hand at it again. There are a couple of farmers markets around town I try to buy from instead of the big stores, but they aren’t super convenient to my house so usually happens when I’m on one side of town for a meeting or some other errand.

What kind of soil do you use? I can make adjustments for the spring.

Get the power company or a tree service to dump a load or two of hardwood chips of to the side of your yard and wait 2 or 3 years and the dirt that results works wonders for gardening.

What area/zone do you live in? Probably the same or similar to you, I’m in South Tampa just outside of downtown. I have a tomato plant ready to be planted if you'd like one. I work across the gandy close to the dog track. Now would be the time to get into a 5 gallon bucket of bigger container. Keep it in a simi shaded area until the rain and humidity slack off. Move it to a full sun area of your property in about 3-4 weeks and it will do great until the spring.

Did you grow those Robert? Nice harvest! Heavens no. That's at Osage Farms roadside stand in Dillard. You'll be picking tomatoes and corn off the wagons as they come out of the fields up there.

Typically about 12"-15" of these two on top and the chipper stuff underneath.

I'd bet you just like Home Brewed Beer and such that you'll be able to grow Personal Consumption amounts. Seems to be that way in Colorado. Only State I've ever checked.Maybe me and you can open up a Weed Shop in Gainsville. All we need to sell is Weed , Fritos , Snickers bars and condoms...just sayin

I already thought about opening a shop, but I have a bad feeling the major growers will control the retail market. I think the only way small retailers get into the action is when the Fed makes recreational legal, then the big tobacco guys will jump into the market and every convenience store and smoke shop will have weed for sale in every form you want. If the amendment passes, I plan to watch how the legislature creates the law. I assume the Dept. of Agriculture will be in charge of the licensing. It will probably be a year or so before the actual product hits the market.

From what I have been told by local stoners the potency of the pot is extremely high. I guess the potheads will be buying the best product which would keep the doors open for small businesses that produce great products

Most of the legal states are allowing growing for personal consumption. No selling it.
They have a site on FB for personal growers. Some of them have plants big as trees.

My schedule is fubared the next few days starting with having to take my truck in to the shop tomorrow morning and not knowing if I get a loaner or will have to Uber around to my meetings. I’ll send you a pm once I get it all sorted out.
