PolarSD, was it a 340 Dart? I had '70 Cuda with a 340, it surprised a few big blocks. I wish. It was a later dart sport. Sounded faster than it was. But they didn't weigh anything so it didn't take much to light the tires on one. Never really finished it. When I shoukd have been busy working on it I was busy procreating as a teenager. Follow me for more really bad advice When I was 13 and 14 I cut grass and collected bottles to save enough money I bought a 69.5 Road Runner. I rhink I gave 900 fpr it. It was a complete car but it was in pieces the engine was in the trunk but it was all there. And other than so floor pan rust it was solid. A year or so later my dad sold my car. Because it was "too much car for me". The dart was a sort of a consolation prize. I hated it when he drug it home it was nothing like I wanted and the 318 was insulting to a young man with Big Block dreams. He was probably right. I more than likely woukd have killed myself in the Roadrunner. But 32 years later and I still haven't forgiven him for selling something he neither worked for or owned ( minors have no rights). Some kid I knew who's dad had deeper pockets ended up with it. I hated him at the time but they did an absolutely amazing job putting that car back together. It was flawless. I doubt I would have been able to do what they did. But I still woukd have made it pretty nice. Had a friend a few years older than me that had a mint 69 dart. 273 4 speed. That care was an absolute blast to drive

This is from a 65 4 speed car I have.

I think it's more of a top down cruiser than a Racer for him. He bought my old dart. It's his nephew that had the 69 Dart. He had several cudas at one time. These posts are gonna make me do something stupid and buy a damn car I can't afford and don't have the time to tinker with lol

I would buy the 65 or 66 cudas when I found them if they had the Commando 273 from the factory. I had 6 cars but sold one and am planning on only keeping a 65 4 speed that I have. I have most of the stuff restored for the 65 but needs some body work that I can do but don't like to . Had an estimate to do body work and paint for 16k .

Of all the Chrysler engines I really liked the 273. There was something about the small displacement engines. High reving and indestructible. The 273, 283, 289 and even the destroked 327 302 in the early Z28s. I love the sound of a scammed our big blocks but those engines were tough to beat and weighed a heck of lot less

When I was a teenager in the 90s I ran in a circle with a bunch of Mopar guys. One of our little group had an absolutely beautiful 70 GTX 440 white on white. When his old lady told him to sell the car or else he sold it. Everybody said he was crazy and they'd never get rid of their car(s). Well she ended up leaving him after he sold the car to buy her a house. I guess in the end it worked out because he ended up with his daughter. But I remember all the marriage aged guys saying g he was crazy for selling it in the first place. One of the guys was married to a woman that was well....a bitch. She never wanted kids he wanted kids. So "sell the cars we will have kids" Sold some of the cars except a couple and no kids. So he found a woman with kids already that didn't mind having more. He's never been happier. He still has his 70 Roadrunner (plum Crazy 440 4 speed) a 68 Dart GTS Big Block. And I believe his 69 Sport Satellite convertible that won best of show at the Mopar nationals a couple of years. It was a 318 car but mint. He had a panther pink Challenger he was restoring during the split and at least a half dozen other rare cars in various stages of restore. That dart GTS was white on white. But the new wife wanted it some ugly candy cherry color. I hate red.

If I thought I wouldn't get divorced some time in the near future I'd probably buy a car or truck. I want another Bronco.

Don’t forget that great 8-track stereo for cruising around the burger joint. It didn’t add any horse power, but the ladies enjoyed it. For a long time I thought that Ker-chunk halfway through the song Freebird was part of the sound track. 😳

I don't know if there was a better engine than the 327. Great stroke and bore. The entire family 282/302/327/350/400 were great engines to play with. Performance parts were plentiful from the factory and at a reasonable cost. When Chevy came out with the first set of high performance hydraulic lifters in the L-79 it was a game changer for the street rod guys. I did own a '67 Chvelle SS with a L-34 396, 350 hp and a '69 Nova with a L-78 396, 375 hp. Heaven only knows what the true HP ratings were as the factory lied their butts off due to insurance. The L-79 was rumored to be 420 hp range, the L-34 was rumored to be in the 430 hp range and the L-78 was allegedly up around 450 hp. Ordered correctly in a lightweight body with few accessories You could get one off the showroom floor for $3000 or less............with a factory warranty (36/36).

I bought a '68 Hemi Road Runner for $2800 ... a cousin was a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth dealer. He was an old hot rodder and WWII pilot. He ordered the hottest cars they made and sold them like hotcakes. I sold it after 6 months for $3300 ... made back some of the money I spent on new tires. It was scary fast to go and agonizingly slow to whoa.

Back in the early '60s, a friend's folks bought him a Studebaker Lark to play with. Basic plain Jane car with a small V8 and 3 on the tree....it was a blast to roar around the city with. Amazing power for a small block and a real stop light sleeper.
