Wire taps and video surveillance have been around a lot longer than cell phones. Do not disagree at all. A traditional "wire tap" takes a mountain of probable cause to get a judge to sign off on the authorization. Now it seems like surveiling people has become sport, without any such thing as due process.

Once a search warrant is issued, we get to break in however we can. Often it cannot be done on the newest iPhones. The Feds work on ways to get in. About the time we figure it out, Apple releases an update to stop us again. Tim Cook’s been pretty hard core about it. I wonder how cops arrested people before cell phones? I always said if you're dumb enough to put something in writing, on the record, you deserve jail, on principle alone. People tend to carry their child porn around with them with the advent of cell phones. In the old days I suppose they tended to hide it in a stash somewhere around their house.

Anyone that has a smart phone is an open book. Well, as my first wife told me, "You don't give a smart phone to a dumbass." That's leaves out about half the forum. (Who will be the first to point the side they aren't on are the dumbasses. 10, 9, 8, 7...........)

But I swear on the Lord Jesus Christ, I haven't carried a phone, smart or otherwise, in 11 years.

The programmatic advertisers have a much more detailed and accurate profile of everyone based on the totality of one's digital footprint, than the NSA ever would.
Big Brother is not who most think.
