I had a shoulder issue and they made me fo 6 wks of PT before they’d do an mri. The mri said bursitis. Doc gave me a cortezone shot and it was nice but temporary.
Ended up on allopurinol for gout and it made the bursitis go away. And an elbow issue i was having.
Gout is avform of arthritis and i guess other arthritis stuff is similar. The elbow and shoulder doc told me that there was no way the allopurinol solved my issues…. But it did. So does diet.
Good luck w your shoulder!

Not sure I received a local as she stuck me in the butt, only once. Unless she mixed me up a cocktail. never heard of a shot in the butt for shoulder pain, but Google says it works. A cortisone shot in the buttocks, also known as an intramuscular injection, can help with shoulder pain caused by rotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP). Studies have shown that intramuscular injections in the buttocks provide similar outcomes to subacromial injections, and both are better than intramuscular saline injections.

Diet, exercise, weight loss will help, and may "cure" the gout, but I don't go anywhere without my Allopurinol. As you said, it also helps alleviate other inflammatory issues.

I just got my second shot, first one was in January, this one was a week ago. The shot was in the knee to relieve pain from a Bakers Cyst which is behind the knee. Doc says I can get one every 4 months if necessary. She sprayed some numbing spray on the injection site before sticking me. So, I think I have a bakers cyst. Self diagnosed as of this weekend. Heading to the Dr next week to get it looked at. My knee cap moves and will crack. Extension and flexion causes a crack in my knee as well. I have a decent amount of pain and swelling in the back of my knee and it runs down my calf muscle half way. This has been progressively getting worse over the past year or so. It's starting to become more intense and my knee feels like it wants to give out a little, at times. Are these similar to your symptoms?

The only cortisone shot I ever got was right up the tip of my tail bone for a old compression injury and chipped vertebrae. I took the first of the 3 shot series without being knocked out. I told the Dr they were going to have to knock my big ass out for the next two. But, it does work miracles for certain types of inflammation and pain management. I had a pimple on the end of my nose. I went to the dermatologist and he said I don't want that to scar anything. He proceeded to call in an assistant that was about 6'2" and 240lbs easy. Out comes the cortisone shot and he hits it right dab in the middle of my nose tip. I was lucky to have the 240lb guy holding me down or that needle would have gone through the back of my skull. All over a pimple.. Unreal. Yeah those particular needles are no joke. When they needled me, the insertion was mildly uncomfortable. Then she said I'm adding a numbing agent. Ok, pretty painful. The sweat started on my brow. I'm a tough guy. Keep stay on task... next comes the cortisone. Holy fuck that hurts. Sweat starts running profusely and in chewing my gum intensely. Then she said, here comes the dispersing agent.... sweat starts pouring and I'm clenching my teeth and about to break the table with my grip. I cry out like one of the little bitches on this forum , "whoa, WHOA! HOW MUCH MORE OF THAT SHIT ARE YOU POURING INSIDE ME?!" I literally thought my buttocks was going to blow apart when the Dr added the dispersal agent. I then saw the needle and told her she's gonna have to knock me out on the next visit. That's the story my wife likes to tell about my cortisone shot in the tail bone. That's what she saw and heard from the open door in the next room.

I am used to pain and have a high tolerance. This cortisone to the nose was something else. Now I get them every 6 months in my fingers. Starting to get used to the pain, fingers definitely not as bad as the nose tip.

They can be pretty uneven. I have issues with my left knee and have had the shots quite a few times. Normally, needles don't bother me and once I even drew blood from myself when the tech couldn't get the vein. That knee shot, tho'...watching that long, long needle go into the middle of my knee suddenly hit me where I live and my tummy flip-flopped and I nearly barfed on him. Hadta look away.
This has been going on for...~12 years...?? Sometimes the benefit lasts a few weeks; the latest one was in FL in 2022 and - knock wood - has been holding up fine since. I don't baby it, but don't stress it unnecessarily, either.

Knee Cap does not move and no cracking ut pain in back of knee and descending down calf and weakened muscle to where it wants to give out occasionally. See an orthopedic MD and get an x-ray to confirm

I've had 3.
One in my elbow and one in each knee.
Be careful getting to many in one spot. My dad had one to many in his heal and it cause his achilles tendon to rupture.
Glad you're feeling better.

I've had one in each heal. The first one the Dr. went through the bottom of the heal, that hurt bad, real bad. Years later I needed the other heel done. I kept putting it off because of how the first shot went. Finally psyched myself up and said let's do it. This time the Dr went through the side of the heal, that one was a cake walk. Dr said any Dr that went through the bottom of the heal was a sadist. The knee was the least painful, a little heat at the end. Thankfully all three worked out great.
