Relationship with Donald Trump During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Vance was an outspoken critic of Republican nominee Donald Trump. In a February 2016 USA Today column, he wrote that "Trump's actual policy proposals, such as they are, range from immoral to absurd."[102] In the Atlantic and on the PBS show hosted by Charlie Rose,[103] Vance called Trump "cultural heroin"[104] and "an opioid of the masses."[105][106] In October 2016, he called Trump "reprehensible" in a post on Twitter,[107] and called himself a "never-Trump guy."[108] In a private message on Facebook he called Trump "America's Hitler".[109]

I thought Trump hated beards.
Not sure what Vance does for the ticket except he is young. But I do not know much about him. I know he called Trump an idiot in 2016 and claimed to be a "never-Trump guy".

Wikipedia Republicans (at least outside of Ohio) will love him. Swing voters and democrats not so much.

Vance won't pick up many votes. Folks who like him were already Trumpers. His election-denying and abortion positions put him squarely in the MAGA-verse.
"President Vance"? I like the sound of "President Burgum" or even "President Rubio"much better.

Rubio was a better choice IMO.
He has more experience especially with global affairs.
I did not want it to be Burgum so not my last choice for Trump's VP pick.

Perhaps the political judgment is that the VP does not need to pick up votes but rather be clean personally and not polarizing to where he costs votes? It's a reasonable thought with the situation as it is at the moment. And if Trump has chosen with a eye to the future then a young man who is still in the learning mode rather than the solidified mode may actually be better for the country. We'd do well to research some on our own before the media tells us what to think....🙄

He has a memoir. Tough upbringing. I can see him focusing on the pivotal rust belt states.
