4Runner is definitely tops on our list. Sounds like we should stick with that goal. I wonder how much KIA and Hyundai have improved on the SUV's? Nephew had a Hyundai Santa Fe, blown engine at 66,000 miles. I’ve heard the Kias and Hyundai are disposable cars. Those 4Runners are bad ass but they sure ain’t cheap. Figured with your Taco the only thing you would be looking at is a Yota. That's where we are leaning. My wife likes shopping around though LOL She has a turbo Acura with half the miles as mine and it has a pretty substantial oil leak. I've owned a couple Hondas and they all leaked. Pretty certain we are going to get another Yota when we get rid of her POS.

I'm a Ford guy. I love my U.S. built Fords (super dutys for you plebs). That being said Toyota at one time built a hell of a product. But pretty much EVERYTHING being built right now is shit (save for the superdutys) Toyota are blowing up engines. I know of 3 different people who have GMs that blew the engine/dropped a valve before the first oil change. Ford? Can't keep engines in their broncos and some other trucks. Who would have thought small displacement with twin turbos wasn't a recipe or longevity??? Kias are well documented for being a POS. Hydaui is only slightly bettwr than Kia and that's in the looks dept alone. Their trim levels have greatly improved over the last few years. If I was buying right now I'd have to seriously consider an older Toyota or pre ecoboost Ford. And least a 5+ year old GM. Having worked in a Toyota plant and seeing their quality control their recent engine issues are kinda surprising. It link we are just asking to much out of too little displacement. I'm all for environmental controls buy I believe we have screwed the pooch on emissions on vehicles. I'm seriously considering an imported hilux with 2.8TD as my Dailey driver. So I can make my F250 last a lot longer than it would with me driving it dailey

I drove a VW Atlas for a few days as a rental.
It drove alright but was nothing special.
The trim was cheap.
didn't care for it ...

They are dependable engines and don’t need no turbo chargers. Plus they have been making them for decades.

Think the issue with the V10 was not enough thread. I’m still driving the 5.4 2 valve. Purposefully bought it to avoid both these issues. Next F150 will be the 5.0. But my truck has 112,000 on it so it might outlive me😉

Now you got me worried. 4.9. V8. I’m not sure if they used them on the V6 engines.

I've owned 2 with over 400k miles between them and never had one spit a plug. I think it was more problematic on the later 3 valve engines. They had 2 piece spark plugs. Not sure who the genius was that come up with that brain fart. I was doing a tune up on my older Excursion and the guy at autozone gave me the longer 2 piece plugs. Glad I caught it because they would have .made contact with the piston had I put them.in and cranked it. Because of that and other incidents when I go in an autozone or any parts store I already know the part number and what the part looks like. And that's still no guarantee it's the right part.

We are a Ford family. As a kid it was Town Cars , Continentals, and F150’s. We had a Tempo, Escort and Taurus wagon. We have strayed from time to time. Civics, 4.3 Chevys, Caddy, mom had a Swinger 1973. But we always seem to end up with a driveway full of Fords.
Uncle was the car guy and they liked the Mopar product in the 60’s and 70’s. I got pictures of Coronets, Chargers, Imperials, Polaras. Uncle still swears that slant 6 was the best motor ever made.
In the 80’s Ford became the go to and it’s what I grew up working on. With regular maintenance we have never blown an engine. Wife lost a tranny on a Mountaineer. At least 4 of my family members are driving the 4.6 Marquis , Town Car, or Crown Vic. Can’t kill’em.
