I started smoking a pipe in my mid 30s. Cigars rarely. Never a cigarette.
Tobacco calms my mind and helps me either relax or focus. In a heavy dose, it gives me a buzz equivalent to a couple shots of whisky.
I was introduced by my buddy who was an Elder at my church. I was also an Elder but got burned out on it (in my pseudo-Baptist/Presbyterian non-denomination an Elder is a pastor). When I stepped down as an Elder my buddy gifted me with a pipe. Prior to that I wouldn’t smoke because of the appearance of it. There are things in Christianity that are not sinful in and of themselves but they become sinful if a person’s conscience thinks its sin. In that case, Christians who know that the thing in question isn’t a sin still have an obligation not to tempt Christians with something the other Christians think is sinful. Drinking is the primary example. I would put smoking in the same category. Therefore as a pastor I avoided it. But once I wasn’t a pastor anymore, I was free to pursue it.
I can smoke as frequently as every day for a few days in a row to as infrequently as once a month. I do not crave it unless I already am thinking about it, as I am writing this response. But its the mildest of cravings. If my sex drive is a 10, peanut butter and milk is an 8, my craving to smoke is a 2 or a 3. But I enjoy it when I do.

Never cared for cigarettes, tried a pipe and cigars. Switched to Redman, then Levi Garrett for a long time. Pretty much quit, except for when I am in the woods.

Then you could probably give up the pipe I think the pipe in moderation is healthier for me than peanut butter and milk at this point in my life. That’s the part of it that’s an addiction. I don’t smoke very often. But the idea of giving it up makes me fighting mad. No one can tell me to quit doing it. Even if I go 6 months without a smoke (and I’ve definitely went months between smokes), I enjoy knowing its there when I want it and I won’t tolerate anyone telling me to quit… … and that’s how I know nicotine has changed my brain. Its an odd thing to want to fight a circle saw for the freedom to smoke when I don’t smoke that heavily.

I promise I won't get personal with the juvenile prosecutors . If it comes to that, and I doubt it does, you will drag your ass into court as a material witness

Mom smoked like a chimney from the day I arrived home. Kept the windows up in the car back then when smoking.
Than when I was 13 my sister got a job selling tobacco at a kiosk inside a woolworths. Somehow I smelled Redman chewing tobacco.
Chewed until my daughter was born 26 years or so.
I think my mom made me a nicotine addict

The Krauts were dosing their soldiers with meth amphetamines in WW2 in order to make them march longer, fight harder, eat less, sleep less... Hitler took it too what I read. I can remember smoking in the courtroom. The pews had ashtrays on the back of them.

I never smoked. Even though I grew up with a family (both sides) that smoked like a paper mill, with the exception of my mother. When I joined the Air Force it was pretty much promoted, smoke breaks, cigarettes in flight meals and cheap prices in the BX. Some how I never picked it up. I will say that cigarettes are way different today than those of decades ago. The smell is different.

Closest I ever came to smoking was when we won the area championship my Sr year and one of the coaches bought us all cigars. We had GMC 1 ton vans we traveled in. I about choked to death riding back to the school that night. I remember being in Bara as a teenager and thinking this shit stinks and never was really attracted to it. And dipping Jesus Christ. At one point I attended a school with a bunch of rednecks. 210 kids from K5-12 and there were like 3 of us that didn't chew/dip/smoke or all three. Including the girls. Watch a teammate puke all over the bus after swallowing his dip. Shit just wasn't my cup of tea. Brother smoked the shit outta dope. Never cared to be in the car with that shit going on either. But I drank like a fish
Now if I go in a room or near a person smoking my damn sinuses are jacked for days. I can't take it

Never smoked a cigarette in my life. My dad was a chain smoker and my mom smoked for a bit too. Like others had mentioned, they smoked in the house and smoked in the car with us kids in there with the windows rolled up. Probably where I got my distaste for cigarettes. Smoked a lot of weed in my teens and early 20s. I gave it up when I got serious in the workforce and then I started smoking cigars. Not a lot, but I enjoyed the little buzz that they gave me. I never inhaled them though just puffed. Still smoke cigars to this day, but I don’t inhale them. I find it very relaxing. I know they’re not good for me but a lot of things I do is not good for me either. I did quit smoking cigars and drinking for about six months leading up to, and after my back surgery until my fusion was complete.

You aren’t supposed to inhale either cigar or pipe smoke. The first time I tried smoking I inhaled and although the warm smoke felt good while smoking, afterward my lungs felt icky. I decided I wasn’t going to smoke again but then I realized I was doing it wrong. Once I learned I’m supposed to just let it swirl in my mouth I tried again and stuck with it ever since. I later learned how to blow smoke through my sinuses and out my nostrils without inhaling it. Nicotine is a natural pesticide. Like many pesticides, it has antibiotic, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.

Started smoking when I started drinking at around 17. Loved my cigarettes. Smoked three packs a day from the time I woke up till I went to bed. In my late 20's it was affecting my health (bad bronchitis) whenever I caught a cold and one day just stopped. Kept on smoking weed though.
