The Reformed Church / Dutch Reformed Church was the oldest in our suburb. ( Back in the 60's, that denomination was the "state" church of South Africa. ) The little town's land, too hilly to farm, was bought from Indians by Dutchmen. Several denominations built there, though the Catholic church was a latecomer. That event caused many residents to think "there goes the neighborhood". Of course, there was never any reason for a Baptist church. ( Or a synagogue, for that matter. ) As my great grandparents came to this country to be able to worship as they pleased it was ironic how much my grandmother disliked the Catholic people. She used to rant about the Catholics. She actually said that they were all going to hell because they worshipped a false god. I never figured out what she meant by that. Anyway I remember them being in an outrage when the Irish Catholics started moving into the neighborhood. She went absolutely ballistic when I was asked by Mrs Connolly to put her dog on a chain and it bit me in the throat. Insane rant that I remember to this day. 🙏

So what exactly became of the billions of dollars from such things like the Clinton Foundation, the tax money spent by the State Department, the millions of dollars paid to all the NGO’s? “Consultation fees” really add up

Those Boers of South Africa were tough people. They seem to be a sharp contrast to the seemingly more peaceful modern residents of the Netherlands.

Today we need to treasure law and order and stand firm for democracy and the rule of law. Unfortunately a lot of the newcomers (not all of them but a great number) are out for personal gain, and can care less about our history and our future.
I don't disagree, but there are certainly plenty of those whose families have been here for a long time that share those traits.

They were all hard working honest people. Darn, they used to sweep the street and whitewash the curbs. Dad used to do in front of any older persons houses that couldn’t do it themselves. That neighborhood is now the most dangerous neighborhood in Chicago. In Grand Rapids Mi it was the same. The old women were out scrubbing the front porch and sidewalk every day early No work at all in Sunday all the stores were closed. Not until about 15 years ago could you buy booze in Sunday. My wife's family was Christian reformed church, which was not as conservative as Dutch Reformes or protestant reformed

I didn’t understand why when I was only 6.

I see cell phones !!! Well groomed and decent clothes !!! so what's up with that My daughter spends several months in South Africa every year and cell phones are a big help. Way cheaper to online bank than hire a driver or taxi to take you to the bank and that goes for other services as well. Cheap phones and pay for the minutes you need is very cheap and very necessary, especially when the closes bank is a 50$ car ride away.

In many poorer areas around the globe banks are few and far between so the economy is mostly digital transfers from phone to phone.

The guy in the back is wearing a watch Lol Most likely a relative gave him the watch. Cubans for the most part aren’t here for free shit although many do receive it because it is free. Courtesy of the red white and blue. The whole immigration policy needs some serious attention from congress.

I was touring Trinidad with a local and when I asked her about social security she said: what? The America we know is a dream to many of these people. I don't condemn them for getting whatever assistance is made available to them as our general population has come to demand it.
