They have to do all the engineering studies for the bridge. They need to go and drill a bunch of borings to figure out the piles and foundations. It's gonna take a bit.

Aside from the engineering studies and plans, who will pay for construction? The Government..... that means you and me.

Yah, but at least the benefit is for us and not the A-rabs or some other enemy our gummint seems to want to throw billions at. Wish they'd throw some of it to the retirees and veterans.

I’m hoping they will construct bumpers to protect the new supporting structures so this doesn’t happen again. Anyone hear what’s in the containers?

The insurance carrier for the ship owner should pay.

The insurance carrier for the ship owner should pay. I remember reading somewhere right after it happened that the Fed's would step in and pay for new construction to try and overcome the time constraints of insurance filing and maybe even back and forth about who should pay and then the Fed's would get reimbursed for whatever their outlay was or a portion of it anyway. Don't know about all of that but the article that I read made sense and laid it out in a way that was feasible.

Every government job bid. It's not coming in at 300M
:Current official estimates are that the bridge could cost between $300 million and $1.2 billion to replace"

I’m leaning toward the billion estimate. Before overruns.

I’m leaning toward the billion estimate. Before overruns. Times two, of what you said.

Feds pay 80% and the state coughs up 20 assuming it's a state route. No tolls if the construction of the bridge is federally funded. At least that's the way it was in PA. The shipping companies insurance provider will pay some but it'll be years and years before money is paid out.

Are they going to rebuild the entire bridge or replace the section that was destroyed?
There is still two sections standing with the middle section destroyed. I thought they would replace the missing section and attach it to the old bridge. Seems like this would be quicker, cheaper, and easier. But what I read makes it look like they are rebuilding the entire bridge.

But what I read makes it look like they are rebuilding the entire bridge. That would make to much sense. I’m pretty sure they will start from scratch. Lots of money to be made and favors to be repaid. 😉

I'd imagine the entire bridge. Will be replaced Even though portions of the bridge remain, I'm sure the structural integrity has been weakened. I'm also sure technology has come a long ways since the original bridge was built. All this whining and crying just reflects the victim mentality that exists in America now.

This is the sort of situation I have no problem with my tax money going towards. One of the busiest ports in America, just STFU and get it done.
