I'm trying to pin down when to expect to see different levels of growth. From the bit of research I've done so far, I'm reading that I should expect to see nubs by the end of April. Then the Majority of antler growth between May, June, July. Then hard horned by the end of August. The problem with the reading is bucks in the majority of the county follow pretty similar timelines but bucks in Florida seem to be all over the place.
What have you all see in the areas you hunt for comparison?

The problem with the reading is bucks in the majority of the county follow pretty similar timelines but bucks in Florida seem to be all over the place. What have you all see in the areas you hunt for comparison? My area near Georgia follows the textbook. Velvet through July and about that time or August the biggest bucks will rub it off first and go to doing bucky things like working pawings and making rubs. Rut in October with breeding occurring afterwards every month through February. Generally expect velvet to end about a month to 2 months before rut. Unless its the panhandle where they’ll go hard-horned in fall but not rut until February. Gulf Hammock will be in full rut by August and have a second rut early winter. South Florida will be in rut June-July. South Alachua county will rut in October. I don’t pay mind to nubs. But I see forked velvet May-June here and it grows fast. When I used to hunt Grove Park, I’d see nubs and velvet spikes in March.

I don’t have much to share on the subject, however I hunt central also and last year I set cameras early August. Still had deer in velvet and no rubs yet.

A few weeks ago, while driving down Hwy 70, I saw a buck just west of the Kissimmee River that still had antlers. Never seen one that hadn’t shed yet that late before in that part of the state.

The bucks I am getting on my cameras in southern Columbia County have started to grow their antlers back. They are anywhere from bumps to about 4" now. They are hitting the FRM 20 protein pellets pretty good, as well as the pregnant fat does.

Lots of spotted fawns on our place in Glades during turkey season. Haven’t seen any fawns yet in Manatee. Plenty of antler growth both places, with the bucks a little farther along in Glades.

I spied one with hard horns near Ona a few years ago in early spring. Turned around, parked on the shoulder and was staring at him with my binoculars. Then the FWC pulled up next to me. He turned out to be a friend of mine and just wanted to catch up. The buck was a Robo-deer some of his staff had put out that morning. I told him it was too early for a racked buck that’s what triggered my stop. So be aware my friends😉
