Yesterday went to the woods to roost a bird...nada a peep.
Today 1st day of quota hunt. No wind, no bugs, sun starting coming up, a bird gobbled in a tree 200 yards southwest of my set up. No way I can get over there so what the heck I started yelping everytime he gobbled. This went on 5 or 6 times when a 2nd bird to the north starts gobbling. Oh joy! I'm square in between 2 birds gobbling. Can tell the birds are on the ground when bird number 3 fires up to my east. I scouted these birds a month ago. I'm sitting on the northwest corner of private property, but on the wma side of the fence. Their pattern had been to roost to the north of the fence on wma and work their way to the private property at the corner I'm sitting at. Then there is Murphy... Bird 1 and 3 hookup on the private property and gobble non stop until 9:30. I can see them on the hill top 400 yards away. Bird 2 gobbles good but is slow to move. He finally get about 70 yards starts clucking. He just would not commit all the way. I hung out till 1pm but never heard a nother peep after they shut down.. Tomorrow I'll move closer to bird 2 roost area.

I love hearing them gobble. Perfection is one gobbling and coming in to range. Good luck with the plan.

3 x at this wma i hunted this year i watched 2 sometimes 3 gobblers strut, fight, gobble, dust and feed sometimes 30 yds from me, problem was they are on seminole land and im 10 yds inside the property line on the wma side, first time i had a jake with a laying down hen and they 100% seen the decoys and would gobble at them but would not go under or around the gate to my side, 2nd time no decoy and they would reply to my calls by gobbling but still not cross over to my side, 3rd time i brought out the big gun, a full size gobbler decoy, they looked at it and left the area completely. finally the last day of the permit, sunday the 7th the last day of permit and the 6th time i been to this spot they showed up again, same time everytime between 11 am and 1pm, this time i had 1 feeding hen decoy and once they seen it the race was on 2 ran in and slipped under the gate the third one who was in last place jumped up flew 50 yds and landed next to the decoy, all three tried mounting the decoy then strutting around it till 1 of them knocked it over, all of this only lasted maybe a minute and as soon as decoy flipped over they knew something was wrong and started putting and heading back to seminole side, thats when i shot my 2nd bird of the season. 10 inch beard, 1.5 inch spurs ,18 lbs. 15 yds from the seminole property line. a true osceola.

You really should be more careful about giving up your spots. Based on this description even an idiot like me could figure out you were right on the west edge of Fransis S Taylor between the Miami canal and the reservation on the north side of 75. Thanks a lot now I have to find a new spot to turkey hunt.

Day 2 I setup on a clearing a 100 yards north and a 100 east of my setup from yesterday. Just as it was showing pink on the horizon, I think it was bird 3 from yesterday. He started gobbling about 200 yards due east of me. The bird was hot and gobbled non stop from the tree until it was full light. The other birds never gobbled. Once the bird gobbled from the ground, I called out with three yelps. The bird went ape shit crazy with double and triple gobbles. I could tell he was moving towards the private property, so I thought, might as well go for broke and begin hammering the bird with cuts and yelps, cuts and yelps. Once the bird hit the private I just sat there listening to him hammering and going away. As I'm sitting there listening a bird less than a 100 yards from me on the edge of the clearing, clucks 3 times and then launches out of the tree. He glides across the clearing to the north, hits the ground and disappeared. I sat there as long as could stand it, soft calling every 30 mins or so. After 7:30 am all heard was the bobwhite calling, they are everywhere in that spot.

PS, I hope you know that I'm kidding. I couldn't hunt down south from some of the horror stories I've heard. Kudos to y'all that are successful down there, y'all earn'em. im the mr rogers of the woods, need any help dragging a deer or pig ill loan you my game cart ,truck broke down, need a cold beer or a water ,aint seen anything i might not send you to where im hunting but i will try to put you in a decent area. just dont give me the i got cameras out there and been scouting for 3 months bullshit or didnt you see my truck parked there first, yes i saw your truck parked at the trail head where there is room for 6 other trucks and this is the main trail or fire break, just like mr rogers who was a trained assassin for the cia i do have a limit of dickheadedness i can take before i turn into a real foul mouthed lunatic begging for some violence but thankfully thats only happened maybe 3 times in forty years hunting south florida wmas.

Late day 3 report Birds were quiet only 1 gobbled on the roost, way to north. I went that direction. By the time I got up to the area he stopped gobbling. I would go 300 down the fire rd sit and call, then move on the next 300 yards. Nothing all morning. I was on my way out when I stopped at a large oak tree by the fire rd so I could take my leg off due to pain in my stump. As I'm sitting there and a bird walks out into the fire break and stands there. He was 60 yards out and I was so tempted to take the shot, but I passed. He moved on and I soft called but he never came back.

Day 4 last day 4 Birds gobbling this morning. I was setup on the 30 yards off the fence to the private pature. 2 birds were gobbling out in the pature. I did some calling and the started moving my direction. I could see them coming right at me. A100 yards out they started moving more to their right. They crossed the fence into the wma but they were 80 yards out. I clicked and purred, clicked purred. They didn't seem to care and went right into the pines. Damn it man! They gobbled every min or so going away. Another bird in the pature gobbled till 8:30 am and then shut down. I've moved to where I saw the bird cross the rd yesterday.
