The average semi drives 600-700 miles a day and has a max weight of 80,000 lbs. How many batteries does it take to conquer that demand, how much space do the batteries take, how much cobalt was strip mined in Africa by slave labor to build the batteries, how many stops a day to recharge, how does two hours recharging a day affect the cost of goods being transported, when and where are the two tons of batteries disposed of...........are just a few of my questions for cyclist EV Truck batteries are pushing 16,000 lbs, when you figure the engine and fuel replaced, that is a net loss of about 4-5000lbs of cargo hauling on a very narrow profit margin.

There is nothing new under the Sun. Kerosene replaced whale oil as the primary fuel for American whaling in the 1850s and 1860s. Kerosene was made from petroleum, which was introduced in 1859. The American alcohol tax of $2 per gallon led to the introduction of kerosene, which became the primary fuel almost overnight. The truck that I currently drive weighs in at 15,645 pounds and that’s with a full tank(130 gallons) it’s a day cab, no sleeper. I can comfortably haul 8500 gallons of Avgas and still be only 79000 pounds GVW. I hauled a load to Venice Fl I topped off the tank just south of Tampa(I never let it get below 1/4 tank). Unloaded and got just north of Venice in a motel for mandatory break and back to Panama City the next day. Everything I have read about EV trucks I could not do that. Weight is to much and the charging times would have made for a longer trip.

You really aren't paying attention. Stop reading the cheerleading rags and start thinking for yourself if, if that's possible. Self-Driving is pretty over. There are no successful programs in any viable testing environment at the moment. They all fell when put into real world situations outside of Arizona or California. EV trucks will never survive in the cold climate parts of America. They are simply too inefficient and kill capacity too much. Ev is a step backwards in efficiency. Every fuel that has been developed in the past was more efficient than the previous fuel, EVS are a huge step backwards.

I don’t mind researching alternative fuels, because eventually fossil fuels will be very limited, but to push all this on us now is ridiculous. We’re still probably 20 years away or more before we can start using alternative fuels. I don’t think I will be around to see it happen though.

We are already using alternate fuels. !0% ethanol at the pumps. EVs on the road. Some stations sell E85.
