Once you take the Fox politics out of this article, it makes a lot of sense. Some Vanderbilt students will have $100,000 in total expenses for the 2024-2025 school year. And the price tag without travel will be more than $90,000 for four New England universities starting this fall. More Generation Z workers are going into trades as disenchantment with the college track increases and rising pay in plumbing and welding compete with a parallel generation of students graduating with degrees and no real direction of what they want to do in life. How about a "three-track system" for high school education? All students take two years of general education, including math, science, history, English, language, etc. Then, you choose two potential career tracks in your junior year, followed by a singular focus in your senior year. For those students who can identify a specific field or area of study that they want to pursue for a career. America needs doctors, lawyers, engineers and a litany of other professions where a college degree is truly necessary to get the basic education to begin your overall career. For some students, college is more than just a degree. It’s an opportunity to learn how to "grow up" and become responsible for grocery shopping, laundry, schedule management and taking care of an apartment. However, so many kids are graduating college now with a degree that doesn’t lead them to a real career path and they still call mom or dad for every single decision. Having taken a major back seat to the college preparatory track for the past 30 years because high school funding concentrated on getting students to do well on standardized tests and prepping for a four-year degree, career tech education is making a major comeback in high school. I took shop in high school. I took auto in high school. I took home economics in high school. I learned that I was bad at all of them, but it opened my eyes to other potential future job opportunities besides going to college. The vocational career track should be part of every curriculum in high schools across America. As trade workers are retiring, businesses recognize that there is a massive deficiency in the supply compared to the demand for these incredibly important skilled workers. Not only are some of these highly paid jobs stable professions, but parents should be proud to tell their families, friends and neighbors their son or daughter is a plumber, an electrician or a welder. www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/90-000-colleges-the-toolbelt-generation-and-why-high-schools-need-a-three-track-system/ar-BB1lnxBk?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=709d60c4c74448aeac7a798aeb0cc99d&ei=72

Shop or home economics was mandatory for us back in the day. Power tools and typing were the two most valuable things I learned back then.

What was the fox politics, did I miss something? When they were old enough I taught my daughters how to handle a firearm, change a tire and maintain a car.

That's all well and good ... if the grade schools were worth a crap.
America's public schools have been going downhill since the late 1960's.
There's no doubt about it ... none, zip, zero.
One of the primary reasons was the institution of "social promotion".
Kids were not held back, and as a result they never learned to read, write, or count.
That can include juniors and seniors in a schools' "aircraft maintenance" program.
( Do you need another reason to studiously avoid airports? )
Anyone who needs "Gramarerly" to write a term paper shouldn't be in medical school.
( Much less in Congress. )
Actually, I don't think you should have a drivers license without at least a GED.
Or vote, for that matter.
Why not bring back the "literacy test" to vote?
How about a civics exam?
In my darker moments ... sometimes ... I think this country deserves Trump.
Allowing his minions to run amok again will be America's penance.
Just like Trump, we'll have nobody to blame but ourselves.

It's misplaced self-resentment, pay it no mind.
Back to the (2nd) topic at hand: It might come as a surprise to learn I aced typing class. Was perhaps the easiest class I ever had as I had been typing for five years by then.
On the 1st topic: The statistics of Vandy and the other NE schools is a bit of cherrypicking. For as long as I've kept tabs on it, Vanderbilt has always been among the most expensive colleges in the US. That said, there certainly needs to be better vocational training for those not suited for or otherwise not interested in higher education.

You ain't a captain of anything. I have no doubt you loved typing class. How's that typing class working for you? My question to you is why are you such an asshole? I learned to be an asshole at a young age. My parents got divorced. I was the shortest kid in school. I had an asshole stepfather. I worked for some serious hard-ass Captains who cut me no slack. My entire fishing family are tough and non-forgiving from back home. My best friend, and my girlfriend, both killed themselves drunk driving. We tournament fished togetherfor 5 years and won everything, we were unbeatable. And we fished together every day. Swallow that pill at 23 years old. After I quit guiding for a living, I became a land developer. Then I realized that every tree hugger in the world was a total prick, as they didn't want anyone else to enjoy what they had. NIMBY. I suffered through 07-10, but I survived, and made a bunch on the backside, and quit while I was ahead. But I got another chip on my shoulder. BTW, I never lost a zoning vote, and had every one go 7-0 on a BOCC vote. In between all of that, I had to run the jiggers out of Boca Grande pass, change the actual law, and the rules of FFWCC. I did that. Proudly. In my spare time, every single YMCA and Boys and Girls club in Hillsborough County, with the exception of two, has my name on the door, whether my grandfather or I built it. Meaning paid for it. I'm a minority partner in a company that employs 900. We raise north of three million for charity every year, through a variety of means, including first class fishing tournaments. Where I live now, I have built/rehabbed a school, and personally subsidize the tuition of every single student. Most of them 100%. So don't ask me why I'm an asshole. I have a boatload of people who will tell you I'm a great guy, eternally dependable, and utterly psychotic about things I believe in. I'm an asshole to liberals who come on a fishing website and preach from their deformed minds. I will always be that guy. I try to post a fishing report every time I come on here. When and where was the last actual fish you caught?

I forgot to add, I've posted my real, whole name here. And I've been in jail at least ten times in three different countries. Probably 4 counties in Florida, which I've also admitted. I did my part. Now explain to me, why you are such an asshole.

Not going to post my entire personal history here as I don't think that's prudent. Don't get drunk and rail at others on this site. Did grow up in Miami and fished since the age of 5. Hook and line fished up and down the coast for a couple of years and found it financially not feasible to do so and live in the style I wanted for my family. Had to deal with deadbeats and assholes in the hotel & restaurant food supply business for too long, and also came from the school of hard knocks. Your name calling and abrasive comments are not what I would consider to be civilized behaviour. Last fish I caught was a Yellowtail. I do post on this site occasionally under the fishing section. Also don't feel the need to brag about what I catch, or caught in the past. Fishing isn't a competition it's a sport. Guess that's what makes me an asshole. Not that I deny being one. Had to be an asshole to survive in my field. At least I'll admit it. Apparently you've grown into a wonderful, altruistic guy who is well qualified to insult and criticize others you don't know. Who knows, face to face we might even be friends. Stranger things have happened, but I don't think so.

I never doubt peoples history or their belief systems . But if you come at me, well I'm not the guy to come at. I had no choice but to be an asshole. The only thing that kept me from death row is my mother. I don't back off of my comments. Again, I'm well known for being an asshole. I appreciate what you say you went through. I was trying to be polite. All of us did. I just take a lot of it personally. My life's mission now is to help people, not insult them. You and I should agree to not mess with each other. My name is David Campo. I am from Tampa Florida. Bet you can't do the same.

Sometimes when your opinion is the unpopular one, they think you are an asshole just because they are unwilling to think for themselves and that is all they have.

Funny thing is CaptJ has been one of the very best contributors to this site in terms of fishing reports and historical perspectives of fishing in south Fl. While I don't always agree with him on political matters you have to give credit where it's due. Who knows him and bacon could actually get along well in real life.
