What are those rubber slings on the swings? We had wooden or metal slats. Now they hurt!

With the board seats, we'd get going as high as we could, then hang onto one chain and rotate off the seat at the top of the swing. Sometimes got high enuf that the landing hurt.
Then, around 1955 the parks commission changed the boards to the slings and that didn't work so well anymore.

We didn’t see a lot of playground equipment. Had monkey bars at the school. We did have a lot of simple rope swings with “croaker” sacks stuffed with moss. It wasn’t uncommon to leap off something high to get on a swing and when we swung back another cousin or friend would leap on. Had a few crashes but it was great!

Summers in Miami that slide was hotter than the surface of the sun.
