Was sent this the other day. content.govdelivery.com/accounts/FLFFWCC/bulletins/3708e60Hate to see them going to this direction of total open kill, but I have a feeling they found more than one infected deer. I hunt WMAs in Jackson County and will not be hunting those areas this year because of this. Living in Leon County and not being able to take meat out of Jackson County pretty much ends it all for me.

So what they’re going to find is that those counties are going to become a big buck hunting wonderland over the next several years once the ridiculous overpopulation of does gets cleared out. They’ll have defined ruts and a balanced buck to doe ratio.
Heck, I might get me a lease out there NOW in anticipation. I bet hunting land is going cheap out there for the time being.
There is some reason to suspect CWD has always been around and isn’t the threat wildlife agencies think it is. But whatever. If it allows those counties to become an experiment to demonstrate the effectiveness of aggressive doe harvesting, I’m for it.

I know a couple ex fwc bios who now work in TN who tell me they check deer harvests for CWD, and the hunters eat their deer regardless of test results. I'm not sure I could knowingly do that.

I like to debone in the field anyhow.

As of a week ago I heard they only have the original positive case. They’re testing the deer depredation kills really hard across several counties near the positive test case. Time will tell.

Having been hunting a CWD area for the past 15 or so yrs... its total BS. Ive never heard anone getting sick or dying ever. The deer herd is as strong as it ever was. The indiscriminate killing of doe deer took its toll for a few yrs but it bounced back and its here to stay..forever

Currently, there is no scientific evidence that CWD can be transmitted to humans or livestock under natural conditions. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not recommend consuming meat from animals that test positive for CWD or from any sick animal.
AND remember, they also told you to get the shot without ANY SCIENTIFIC DATA. FUkem

Knowingly allowing CWD positive deer to be transported to clean counties possibly spreading the disease faster than it would have naturally?

On other forums I've heard of hunters being pulled over on interstates and public roads and their trucks searched for deer carcasses near some states borders. I think TN was involved. Having a muddy truck or wearing a blaze orange cap seemed to be enough probable cause to make the stop. Might be getting a little silly. Since I no longer hunt deer it was just another internet article to me and I can't remember what forum. Might want to check around before making any out of state deer hunts.

Out of state deer hunts are fine as long as the rules to stop the transmission of CWD are followed. FWC is welcome to stop and search my truck anytime they have an inkling I’m going or returning from out of state. I could share stories about what gets transported across state lines but that’s not what this thread is about.

They finally gave out a few antlerless permits last year for gun season, but of course I ended up filling that tag with a small button buck. Gonna be interesting how things go over there this year.

Probable cause is anything that suggests you are returning from a hunt. Lots of trucks go down the interstate with tree stands in the bed. That would be enough probable cause to be upheld in court, if you get stopped and searched and you care to take it before a judge.

Remember that from an Arrest Search and Seizure class from the 1970s. Think it may be from a SCOTUS decision. Stopping muddy trucks or a guy in an orange hat a stretch IMO. My IMO doesn't really count. Lol.

all i want to know is how much more money is fwc gonna ask for to fight this imaginary threat. 1 freaking deer found on the side of the road, sorry but im calling bullshit till i see more evidence. not from the bios at fwc but from hunters,homeowners,the general public, we got 10000 pictures of the rare close to extinction florida panther,so where are the pictures of skinny emaciated deer in florida. how much money are they asking for.

That's very bad news. Also means it's elsewhere at that latitude at the minimum. You can bet FWC is shitting themselves but hopefully they already had a policy created on what to do when this eventually happened. It's possible we see some emergency directives issued before the start of this season. No they’re not shiting themselves They’ve tested loads and loads of deer for sometime now. I don’t know their plan but, I’d suspect after they finish convening and make their decision that the folks in the panhandle are going to have some VERY full freezers this year. Very full. Now if I could only predict the powerball numbers

I don’t think is fake that they found CWD. I do think the overall threat of CWD is overblown, just like bird flu is with domestic poultry. The disease is not new. Just another natural way the population is controlled. It won’t make whitetails extinct. Its probably a testament to the fact we’ve done a poor job of curtailing whitetail numbers.
A panther/puma/cougar makes a deer kill every 2-3 days. A pack of wolves makes a deer kill at the same intervals. Deer were a lot rarer in colonial and frontier times than now due to there being more predators. I’m glad the predators are mostly gone, but managing for high deer numbers has caused us to have more deer than what was standard for at least several centuries prior to modern management practices. Its natural that disease will stand in the gap left by predators.

The rules on when they can stop you will vary from state to state. All states are subject to the Federal Constitution but are also free to be more restrictive than the Federal Constitution.
The current stance of Florida courts are that a vehicle needs to displaying some indicia of the occupants going too, from, or actively participating in hunting activities. Wearing camo, visible weapons, dogs in the box, and many other things can factor towards that determination. Location alone is not enough. Previously, the FWC took the view they could pull anyone over in a WMA at any time. That position has been overruled.

Up north they used to have end of season check points. Trucks and vehicles thought to be hunters. Cooler checks and dog run thru the cab.
If you wanted to avoid that, drive a shiny car and be dressed up w the old lady. They’d look in the windows and wave you thru.

If I ever hunt up north again I'll drive the Bentley and leave the Tacoma at home. I've always been amazed at how little the 4th Amendment means when hunters are involved.
